Learn about Meta accounts on Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Go
Oculus Go
A Meta account lets you log into Oculus Go.
You’ll need to set up a Meta account to continue using your device.
Meta account
Create a Meta account at www.meta.com/websetup:
- On your computer, go to www.meta.com/websetup.
- To avoid losing your apps and data, log in with your existing Facebook account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Meta account and Meta Horizon profile.
Create a Meta account on the Meta Horizon mobile app:
- Open your Meta Horizon mobile app and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you are asked to login, choose Continue with Facebook if you previously logged in to Oculus Go with a Facebook account. If you choose other login options, you’ll create a new account and will lose access to your old account data, like apps, game progress, and your friends list. If this happens, please contact Meta Store Support.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Meta account and Meta Horizon profile.
Log in with a Meta account:
- In the Meta Horizon mobile app, you will have several options to log in to your Meta account:
- Choose Continue with Facebook if you set up a Meta account using your Facebook account.
- Choose Log in with a Meta account if you set up a Meta account with your email.
- Follow instructions to pair your headset.
Note: You will be logged out of your device after creating your Meta account. If you are not automatically logged back in by using the Meta Horizon mobile app, you will need to perform a factory reset.
Meta Horizon profile settings
In your headset, you can see your profile info and can edit your avatar. Edit the rest of your profile information on the Meta Horizon mobile app or secure.oculus.com.
From secure.oculus.com:
- Click Profile on the left.
- Click Edit next to profile information you want to edit.
- Click Save, then click Confirm.
From the Meta Horizon mobile app:
- Open the Meta Horizon app and tap the visible section of your profile to hide the Horizon Feed.
- Alternatively, swipe down from the top of the Horizon Feed to reveal your profile.
- Tap Edit avatar to edit your avatar, or tap
Options, then tap Edit Profile to edit your profile.
Meta Horizon profile privacy settings
To update settings from secure.oculus.com:
To update settings from the Meta Horizon mobile app:
- On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app.
- Tap
Menu at the top of your Horizon Feed.
- Swipe down and tap Privacy settings below Privacy and security.
Friends and followers
Oculus friends are now Meta Horizon followers. You’ll continue to see the Friends section in your device, but these friends are your mutual followers (people you’ve followed who also have followed you back). Keep in mind that only mutual followers are shown, and that you cannot see people who have followed you while your profile is set to public.
You’ll no longer be able to friend other users in your headset even when you select Add Friend.
To approve follow requests:
- Open the Meta Horizon mobile app on your phone.
- Tap
Horizon chat in the top right.
- Tap Contacts.
- Below Follow Requests, tap Confirm.
You can follow other users in the Meta Horizon mobile app.
To add followers using the Meta Horizon mobile app:
- Open the Meta Horizon mobile app on your phone.
- Tap
Horizon chat in the top right.
- Tap Contacts.
- Add followers by searching for new followers or confirming requests:
- Tap
Search at the top and enter a username or first and last name to follow new people. Tap Follow.
- Below Follow Requests, tap Confirm.
- Tap
Blocking
You can block or unfriend users in your headset. You can block or unfollow users in the Meta Horizon mobile app.
Samsung Gear VR
A Meta account lets you log into Samsung Gear VR.
You’ll need to set up a Meta account to continue using your device.
Meta account
Create a Meta account:
- On your computer, go to www.meta.com/websetup.
- To avoid losing your apps and data, log in with your existing Facebook account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Meta account and Meta Horizon profile.
Log in with a Meta account:
- In the Gear VR app on your Samsung mobile device, log in by choosing Log in with Oculus.
- Enter your new Meta account username and password.
- Follow instructions to pair your headset.
Note: You must complete setting up your Meta Horizon profile before you’ll be able to log into your Gear VR device with a Meta account.
Meta Horizon profile settings
In your headset, you can see your profile info and can edit your avatar. Edit the rest of your profile information on the Meta Horizon mobile app on your mobile device or secure.oculus.com.
From secure.oculus.com:
- Click Profile on the left.
- Click Edit next to profile information you want to edit.

If your profile information is synced with other profiles you can confirm the changes across profiles or tap Manage Sync Settings to update settings in Accounts Center.
Meta Horizon profile privacy settings
To update settings from secure.oculus.com:
- Go to secure.oculus.com, then tap Privacy Center.
- Below Privacy Settings, choose your privacy settings.
To update settings from the Meta Horizon mobile app:
- On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app.
- Tap
Menu at the top of your Horizon Feed.
- Scroll down and tap Privacy settings below Privacy and security.
Note: You cannot update privacy settings for your Meta account from the Samsung Gear VR companion app.
Friends and followers

Blocking
You can unfriend or block other users in your headset. If a user is unfriended, the connection will be turned into a one-way follow. Blocked or unfriended users cannot be unblocked or added as a friend again.
