Why we ask for your birthday for Meta accounts

We ask for your birthday to:

  • Make sure features and apps are appropriate for you
  • Offer safety features
  • Suggest content and people to follow
  • Follow laws and regulations
  • Show ads in line with our policies

For example, Meta doesn’t show ads to people under 13. And, when someone under 18 signs up for a Meta account, their Meta Horizon profile is set to Private by default.

Your birthday won’t appear on your profile, even if your profile is public.
