Why Meta asks for your birthday for Meta Accounts

We’re gradually updating Accounts Center, which will enable your Meta Account to work across more products, if you choose. You may see either Accounts Center or Meta Account settings as the place to manage your settings. Learn more about updated Meta Accounts.

Meta asks for your birthday to:

  • Make sure features and apps are appropriate for you
  • Offer safety features
  • Suggest content and people to follow
  • Follow laws and regulations
  • Show ads in line with our policies

For example, Meta doesn’t show ads to people under 13. And, when someone under 18 signs up for a Meta Account, their Meta Horizon profile is set to Private by default.

Your birthday won’t appear on your profile, even if your profile is public.
