Learn about ID verification for Meta Accounts
Meta may ask you to upload an ID to verify your Meta Account information.
Your ID helps us to confirm your identity. We may ask for your ID so that we don't let anyone into your account except for you. We may also ask for your ID to help prevent abuse such as scams, phishing and fraud.
Additionally, the minimum age you need to be to have a Meta Account can vary by location. Meta may ask you to prove your age by uploading an ID.
There are options if you don’t have a government-issued ID (examples: student card, library card).

If you're experiencing issues uploading your ID or verifying your account, please contact Meta Store Support.
In some instances, you may be able to use a credit card to confirm your identity. We won’t store your credit card information, unless you choose to save it for future Meta Horizon Store purchases. You may also be able to verify your account at auth.meta.com/verify and following the on-screen instructions. You can also go to this page if you’ve received a request to verify your account and you can’t log into your account.
Tips for uploading your ID
If you receive an email asking you to upload your ID, please refer to the email for instructions on how to upload your ID. Otherwise, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Make sure your ID is a document type that we accept.
- Depending on the type of ID you’re submitting, check that your ID includes your name, photo and/or your date of birth.
- Check that there’s no mismatch between the document type you selected and the document type you upload. Example: if you select “driver’s license” as the document type, upload a photo of your driver’s license.
- Make sure the ID you upload hasn’t expired.
- Upload documents that are in good condition. Text and photos (if applicable) must be clearly readable. Blurry documents are often rejected.
- Extra tips to take clear photos of your ID:
- The ID or document should take up about 80% of the image.
- No portion of the image may be covered up or blocked out.
- Use your mobile device camera to take the photos since the smaller resolution of some computer cameras may make verification more difficult.
- Avoid angles. Take photos of your ID or documents straight-on with all four corners visible. Fill the frame and avoid any cut offs.
- Turn off the flash to reduce glare.
- Place the document face up on a flat, even surface.
- Place the document on a dark table or surface for a well-contrasted background.
- Remove any other objects from the photos.
What happens to your ID after you send it to Meta
After you send us a copy of your ID, it'll be encrypted and stored securely for 30 days to help confirm your identity. Your ID won't be visible on your profile, to friends or to other people in Meta.
To help ensure that IDs used for identity confirmation are real, we may use both manual review and automated systems. We may also partner with trusted service providers to confirm your identity. This helps detect and prevent risks such as impersonation or ID theft, keeping you and our community safe.
It may take up to 48 hours to review your ID. When we’ve verified your identification, you’ll receive an email notification.
ID verification through Yoti
Your ID may be verified through Yoti, a third-party age verification service.
Yoti is verified by the Age Check Certification Scheme and is the leading age verification provider for several industries around the world including social media, gaming and age restricted e-commerce.
Types of ID that Yoti accepts to verify your age
The ID you choose must include a photo of your face and your birth date. Yoti accepts the following types of ID:
- Passport
- Driver's license
How to use your ID to verify your age with Yoti
If you choose to use your ID to confirm your age with Yoti, you will need to allow Meta to have access to your camera.
To capture your photo, you should lay your ID on a flat surface, avoid glare or shadows, and center your ID. Once your ID is scanned, you can submit the photo of it for review, or you can retake the photo.
Depending on the laws in your region, you may also be required to get parental consent depending on the results of your age verification.
Tip
When you capture a photo of your ID, the photo might be stored on your device. For security reasons, it's often better to delete this photo from your device's photo gallery after you've completed the ID upload process.
