Troubleshoot your D-Link VR Air Bridge for Meta Quest

D-Link VR Air Bridge stopped receiving firmware updates in December 2024 and is no longer supported on any Quest headsets.

If you’re having trouble setting up or using your D-Link VR Air Bridge, start by reviewing some basic troubleshooting measures listed below. If you’re having a specific problem, or are receiving an error message, check out our known issues section. Keep in mind, as known issues are resolved with more permanent software updates, we’ll remove them from this list.

General troubleshooting

If you’re having trouble with your D-Link VR Air Bridge, first try the following steps to see if you can quickly resolve the issue:

Make sure your PC's Wi-Fi is enabled.
Check that the VR Air Bridge is using the approved cradle and plugged into a USB 3 port. USB 3 ports are often blue, however this varies depending on your PC.
Turn Quest Link off and on in your system settings in VR. You can do this from the quick settings panel.
Check to see if your graphics driver has an update available.
Beta restart all Oculus software on your PC. To do this:
1. Click Settings.
2. Click Beta.
3. Click Restart Oculus.
If any banners or notifications appear when you reopen the desktop app, follow the instructions to update your computer to the latest software and drivers. Your PC app will need to be on version v44 or later to work with Air Bridge.
Reboot your Meta Quest headset. To do this:
1. Hold down the power button on your headset. This will turn the headset off.
2. Continue holding down the power button until you see the Meta symbol appear in-VR.
3. Release the power button, and try using Air Link again when your headset finishes rebooting.
Reboot your PC: In case the issue is with your PC, exit out of the desktop app and completely restart your computer before trying Air Link again.
Factory reset your D-Link VR Air Bridge. To do this:
1. Open the desktop app.
2. Click Devices.
3. Click VR Air Bridge.
4. From the fly out panel select Factory Reset.
5. Click Reset to confirm.

Known issues

If you’re still having trouble with your Air Bridge, see if the problem you’re having lines up with any of the specific issues and mitigation steps listed below. Keep in mind, the solutions below assume that you’ve already completed the general troubleshooting steps listed above, as they’re applicable to most situations and will often resolve the problem regardless of cause.

PC issues

VR Air Bridge isn’t showing up in the PC App under Devices

If you’re having issues where VR Air bridge isn’t showing up in the PC app, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

If the device is not showing at all make sure the VR Air Bridge device is seated flush with the approved cradle and the cradle is plugged in fully to the USB 3 port.
Check the Windows Device Manager to make sure the device is showing up in Network adapters as a D-Link device and not other Network device. If it is showing as an other device, the VR Air Bridge driver was not installed. To install it:
1. Close the Desktop app.
2. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run command.
3. Enter C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-drivers.
4. Open oculus-driver.
5. Open the desktop app and then try to connect your headset again.

VR Air Bridge encounters an error during initialization

If you’re having issues with the initialization of your VR Air Bridge, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

Make sure you aren’t using a VPN.
Make sure the PC Wi-Fi is enabled.
Make sure the VR Air Bridge adapter is not auto connecting to a saved Wi-Fi network.

From your PC’s desktop search bar type “network status.” You can also find this in your Windows system settings.
Under Advanced network settings select Change adapter options.
In the Network Connections window that populates, the Wi-Fi adapters are shown. If the adapter that shows D-Link DWA-F18 VR Air Bridge is connected to a Wi-Fi network:

Right click the adapter and select Connect / Disconnect.
In the pop up select Disconnect and make sure Connect automatically is not selected.

Check your PC's mobile hotspot settings. To do this:
1. From your PC’s desktop search bar type “mobile hotspot.” You can also find this in your Windows system settings.
2. Use the toggle to turn Mobile Hotspot on.
3. If you can’t turn Mobile Hotspot on, there may be a network connection issue blocking Air Bridge from connecting.
If you’ve set up Air Bridge in the past and gone through the new user experience tutorial, you can factory reset your device from the PC app. To do this:
1. Open the PC app.
2. Click Devices.
3. Click VR Air Bridge.
4. Click factory reset.
5. Click Reset to confirm.

Keep in mind, this is only factory resetting your VR Air Bridge, not your Meta Quest headset.

Meta Quest PC App shows red icon with Error under VR Air Bridge

If you see a red error symbol next to VR Air Bridge in your desktop app, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

Beta restart all Oculus software on your PC. To do this:
1. Click Settings.
2. Click Beta.
3. Click Restart Oculus.
If any banners or notifications appear when you reopen the desktop app, follow the instructions to update your computer to the latest software and drivers. Your PC app will need to be on version v44 or later to work with Air Bridge.
If performing a beta restart did not fix the issue, make sure there are no additional updates, then restart your computer.

Headset issues

VR Air Bridge isn’t showing up in Meta Quest Wi-Fi list

If you’re able to complete the initial PC app setup of Air bridge but it’s not showing up as an option to connect in your headset’s wifi list, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

Make sure the VR Air Bridge shows up under Devices in your PC App and has a green icon that indicates “Ready”.
Check in the VR Air Bridge Details panel for the SSID that should show up in the Wi-Fi list.
Using another device like your cell phone, check the phone’s Wi-Fi list for the VR Air Bridge SSID.
1. If it shows up on another device but not your headset, try turning the Wi-Fi toggle on your headset off and back on again. If it still doesn’t show up on your headset, try rebooting the Quest device.
2. If the VR Air Bridge SSID doesn’t show up on your phone, or another device's Wi-Fi list there may be another issue. Please contact support for additional help.

Meta Quest headset wont connect to the PC via VR Air Bridge

If you can see the Air Bridge network in the Wi-Fi list on your Quest, but aren’t able to connect your PC to your headset, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

Double check that no other headset is connected to your PC. If there is another headset, disconnect it.
Reboot your Quest headset.
Beta restart all Oculus software on your PC. To do this:
1. Click Settings.
2. Click Beta.
3. Click Restart Oculus.
If any banners or notifications appear when you reopen the desktop app, follow the instructions to update your computer to the latest software and drivers. Your PC app will need to be on version v44 or later to work with Air Bridge.

Meta Quest headset stuck on obtaining IP address

If you run into an issue where your headset gets stuck on Obtaining IP Address while attempting to connect to the VR Air Bridge Wi-Fi network, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

From your PC desktop, launch Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet.
Click Network Connections.
Right click on D-Link VR Air Bridge and select Properties.
From the Properties window, click the Sharing tab.
Make sure that Internet Connection Sharing is not selected or checked. If it is selected, uncheck the box, click apply, and then try the in-headset part of the setup process again.

VR Air bridge doesn’t appear in Available PCs list

If your Air Bridge isn’t showing up in your headset’s Available PCs list, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

Make sure that your headset is connected to the VR Air Bridge network. You can do this by looking at your Wi-Fi settings in VR.
Make sure that your PC is only connected to your router via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, not both.
Complete a factory reset on Air Bridge from the desktop app. To do this:
1. Click Devices.
2. Click VR Air Bridge.
3. Click Factory Reset.
4. Click Reset to confirm.
5. Keep in mind, this is only factory resetting your VR Air Bridge, not your Meta Quest headset.
If the factory reset doesn’t resolve the issue, reboot the PC.

Headset stuck in gray environment in VR

If you find yourself in VR and stuck in a gray environment, you may not have completed the VR Air Bridge setup process outside of your headset. Take your headset off and launch the PC app to complete the process and fix the issue.

VR Air Bridge connection shows "Connected, no internet"

When you connect your headset to the VR Air Bridge Wi-Fi network, your connection may display “Connected, no internet”. Once you launch Air Link, your headset will connect to your PC’s internet network, though the connection in your headset will still display as “Connected, no internet”.

As long as your PC has internet access, your headset will connect to the network your PC is on when you’re using Air Link. When not using Air Link, you can reconnect your headset to your home Wi-Fi network.

Performance

Poor performance

To determine why your Air Bridge may be performing poorly after successful setup, connect your phone to your Wi-Fi network and use the RouteThis Helps app to run a diagnostic test.

If you were able to successfully set up VR Air Bridge but the performance is suboptimal, try the following troubleshooting steps.

Check to make sure nothing is obstructing the line of sight from your headset to VR Air Bridge.
Make sure your headset and whoever is wearing it are near the VR Air Bridge.
Make sure there are no other Wi-Fi devices or other headsets nearby that could be causing interference (ex: other Wi-Fi routers).

If possible, always connect your PC to your router via Ethernet cable rather than Wi-Fi.
