Meta Quest 3 headsets support casting/mirroring to an external display using a cable. To learn about casting to web or mobile without a cable, visit this article on wireless casting.

Getting started

Casting to an external display with a cable uses DisplayPort technology, requiring no additional set-up or configuration. As soon as your headset is connected to an external display, mirroring will start. A few things to note:

  • Only some combinations of cables and adapters have been tested. See below for more information.
  • Once connected, ensure both the headset and the external display are powered on to start mirroring.
  • The external display will show both immersive and Passthrough environments.
  • DRM protected content will not be visible on the external display.
  • If connecting to the external display via HDMI, please note that you will need to use an active DisplayPort to HDMI adapter or cable.
  • Mirroring to an external display does not support audio output at this time.

After connecting the Quest 3 to an external display, you will see the headset content on the external display

Output format

Headset content will be shown on the external display in a rectilinear format that is consistent with the rectangular format of the external display. The view from your headset’s left eye is what will be displayed. The resolution on the external display is limited to 1920x1080 at 60 FPS.

Tested cable chains

Tested combinations of cables and adapters include:

  • USB-C to USB-C cable
  • USB-C to DisplayPort cable
  • USB-C cable → DisplayPort adapter → DisplayPort cable
  • USB-C cable → DisplayPort adapter → HDMI adapter (active) → HDMI cable
  • USB-C cable → DisplayPort adapter → DisplayPort to HDMI cable (active)

Note: The combination of hardware being used to connect to an external display can determine the stability of connectivity.
