Calls on Meta Quest devices and the Meta Horizon mobile app

You can make and receive calls with people and with groups on both Meta Quest devices and the Meta Horizon mobile app. You can only start calls with someone you're connected to.

Note: If you’re 10-12 years old (age may vary by region) with a Meta account that's managed by your parent or guardian, your parent must add someone as an approved contact before you can call them. You can only participate in one-on-one calls.


Make calls on Meta Quest

To make calls on Meta Quest:

  1. Press Meta button or Oculus button on your right controller to open the Navigator.
  2. Select Quick controls.
  3. Select Chats.
  4. Select the person you wish to call from Followers or Following.
  5. Select Call next to the person's name.

You can also call a person or a group by visiting their profile and selecting Start a call, or by selecting Call next to their name.

To leave a call, select Leave.

For group calls, as group members join the call, their profile picture will appear in the Group call panel. Up to 8 people can join a group call.

Make calls on the Meta Horizon mobile app

To make calls on the Meta Horizon app:

  1. Open the Meta Horizon mobile app.
  2. Select Chats.
  3. Type or select someone's name or username.
  4. Select Call to start a call.
  5. Select End call to end a call.

Use captions for calls on Meta Quest

When captions for calls are turned on, you’ll see a live transcript of other people’s words and sounds in a dedicated window.

To turn on captions:

  1. Make sure you’re using the latest Meta Horizon software.
  2. Press Meta button or Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the Navigator.
  3. On the right, select Quick controls.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Below Accessibility, select Hearing.
  6. Select the toggle next to Live Captions.
  7. Select Customize Style to customize the text size and colors of your captions.

Note: When you turn on captions, other people on your calls will receive a notification letting them know that their audio is being used to provide captions. Captions are not available when making calls using the Meta Horizon app.
