Learn about Xbox Cloud Gaming on Meta Quest
Stream your favorite Xbox games on Meta Quest with an Xbox Game Pass subscription, or play supported free-to-play games such as Fortnite with a free Microsoft account.
What you need to get started:
- Xbox Game Pass subscription (for most games)
- Meta Quest headset (Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 or Quest 3S)
- Compatible Xbox gaming controller
- High-speed Internet connection
Set up Xbox Cloud Gaming on Meta Quest
To set up Xbox Cloud Gaming on Meta Quest:
- Using your headset or the Meta Horizon mobile app, download and install the free Xbox app from the Meta Horizon Store.
- You must be on at least Meta Quest build 60.0 for the Xbox app to appear in the Meta Horizon Store.
- Note that the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition comes with the Xbox app already installed.
- From your headset, launch the Xbox app from your App Library.
- Select Get Started and follow the on-screen instructions to pair a compatible Xbox gaming controller.
- Select Next and review instructions on using controls and adjusting display size.
- Select Start playing.
- Select SIGN IN at the top.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account that has an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
- Once you’re signed in, select a game to start playing.

Supported controllers
The following controllers have been tested for compatibility with Meta Quest:
- Xbox Wireless Controller (Bluetooth or USB connection)
- Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Bluetooth or USB connection)
- Xbox Adaptive Controller (Bluetooth or USB connection)
- Sony DualShock 4 Wireless Controller (Bluetooth connection)
- Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (Bluetooth connection)
- Backbone Pro (Bluetooth connection)
If your controller inputs aren’t being detected by the Xbox app, check that the gaze cursor for gamepad setting isn’t enabled. Visit Settings > Devices > Gamepad and check that the toggle next to Use the gaze cursor is turned off.
Note: Other Android supported controllers may work but are not officially supported for use with Xbox Cloud Gaming on Quest.
Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition
The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition includes everything you need to get started with Xbox Cloud Gaming and Meta Quest:
- A Meta Quest 3S headset in black.
- An Xbox Wireless Controller.
- A pair of Meta Quest Touch Plus controllers.
- A Meta Quest Elite strap.
- A 3 month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
- A 3 month subscription to Meta Quest+.

Xbox remote play
The Xbox app on Meta Quest can also stream media from your Xbox console. To get started:
- Select your profile picture in the top-right of the Xbox app.
- Press My consoles to see a list of consoles you can play remotely.
- Press CONNECT.
Alternatively select Cloud Gaming in the top-left corner of the Xbox app, then select Remote play:

What if I'm already an Xbox Game Pass subscriber?
If you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you can simply log in after downloading the app from the Meta Horizon Store and pairing your supported controller.
If you are already an Xbox Game Pass subscriber when you buy the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition, please note that the included 3 month promotional subscription will stack with your existing subscription. Redeem the promotional code when prompted and your account will be credited with a 3 month, pre-paid subscription.
What’s the resolution of the display?
Games are streamed to the device at 1080p resolution and 60fps. Xbox Cloud Gaming launches as a 2D panel, and can be resized and moved around your environment freely.
Can I have multiple displays open while I play Xbox games?
Xbox cloud gaming launches as a 2D panel attached to the navigator. Just like Browser, Library and Gallery, it can be detached from the navigator placed freely in your environment and launched at the same time as other 2D or immersive apps. Find out more about managing windows.
What kind of environments are available for game play?
You can use the Xbox app with Passthrough on, or play in a new Xbox-themed virtual environment.
What kind of latency can I expect?
We're confident in the quality of experience for streaming Xbox games in your Meta Quest headset. If you desire lower input latency, you can plug your Xbox controller into your Meta Quest headset using a USB Type-C cable. You may also improve network latency by playing close to your Wi-Fi router. Can I play with friends on Xbox Cloud Gaming on Meta Quest?
Yes, you can play multiplayer games with your Meta Quest headset.
Is Xbox Cloud Gaming on Quest available globally?
Xbox Cloud Gaming is available everywhere Meta Quest is supported except Iceland and Taiwan, where Xbox Cloud Gaming is not supported.
How do I reposition the screen while in the Xbox app?
Xbox cloud gaming launches as a 2D panel attached to the navigator. Just like Browser, Library and Gallery, it can be detached from the navigator, placed freely in your environment and launched at the same time as other 2D or immersive apps:
- Using controllers or hand tracking, move the cursor to the outside perimeter of the window. A white line will appear.
- Select the white line to grab the window, and then drag it to a new location attached to the navigator, or anywhere in your virtual environment.
How do I pair a game controller with my headset or change the game controller I'm using?
The first time you open the Xbox app, it will walk you through pairing a controller with your headset. If you want to add a controller later or change the controller you've set up, select from the bottom of the menu within the Xbox app. You can also set up a game controller to use with your headset from your Meta Quest device settings.
Please note that the Xbox controller and headset included with the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition are already paired.
