Use Natural Facial Expressions on Meta Quest Pro
What it is
With Meta Quest Pro, we’ve introduced Natural Facial Expressions. This feature is used to make your avatar’s expressions look more natural in the virtual world by detecting your facial movements and mirroring them in your headset.Natural Facial Expressions isn’t used to identify you. If you choose to enable this feature, your headset will analyze images of your face in real time to produce a set of numbers that represent estimates of where you’re looking in your headset and your facial movement.
Images your Meta Quest Pro captures of your face never leave your headset and are deleted after processing. This means that neither Meta nor third-party apps will have access to these images.

What it does
Avatar facial expressions
If you choose to turn on Natural Facial Expressions, your headset will analyze images of your face in real time to produce a set of numbers that represent estimates of where you’re looking in your headset and your facial movement.
How to opt in or out
Natural Facial Expressions is off by default – you choose whether to turn it on.
In the Meta Horizon Store, we’ll indicate which apps offer the Natural Facial Movements feature, so you know before downloading them. The first time you open an app that supports this feature, you’ll be asked whether you want to turn it on, even if you’ve already enabled it on your headset. You’ll always be able to turn them off if you change your mind.
We’ve also made it easy for you to pause this feature at any time from the Quick Settings menu so that when you un-pause, you won’t have to go through setup again. All sensors on your Meta Quest Pro, including cameras and microphone, turn off automatically when your headset enters sleep mode.
If you’d like to use Natural Facial Expressions you can opt in or out via Settings.
