Voice Dictation on Meta Quest lets you use your speech to type making it easier to enter text.
Voice Dictation on Meta Quest is available in two modes:
- Online dictation: Only available to users in the United States.
- On-device dictation: An opt-in feature available globally, allowing users to process their voice data directly on their device without sending audio to Meta servers.
How to use Voice Dictation on Meta Quest
To use Voice Dictation instead of typing, select the microphone on your Meta Quest keyboard.
Example (Browser):
- Open Browser.
- Select the website address bar.
- When the keyboard appears, select the Microphone icon.
- Say “meta.com” to type meta.com into the URL field.
- Select Enter to load your results.
Note: Other people in calls and apps won’t hear what you say using Voice Dictation. Your voice will be heard by others after you complete dictation.
How to enable cloud-based Voice Dictation
- The first time you use dictation, you’ll be prompted to enable the feature.
- Your voice data from this feature is sent to meta servers for processing but is not recorded or stored.
- Visit the Voice Dictation Privacy Notice for more details.
- You can change to offline voice dictation in settings at any time.
How to enable offline Voice Dictation
- Enable this feature via the Voice Dictation settings in your Meta Quest device . Users in the United States can choose to use cloud-based dictation by not enabling offline dictation.
- Once enabled, you can download the language you'd like to use and then proceed to use voice dictation without the internet.
- Your voice data from this feature is not recorded or stored.

- You can change your on-device voice dictation setting any time in the settings.
How to find and download new language packs
When you first enable on-device voice dictation, you’ll be guided in-app to download your preferred language model. New languages will be rolled out over time
If you want to add or change languages later:
- Go to the Voice Dictation settings in your Meta Quest device.
- Select Languages.
- Select your preferred language.
- To use the new offline voice dictation language, change the keyboard language to the one you’ve downloaded.
How Voice Dictation differs from Meta AI
Meta AI and Voice Dictation are two separate services that allow you to use your voice to navigate and control your Meta Quest device.
- You can use Meta AI by double-pressing the Meta button on your right Touch controller.
- You can use Voice Dictation to use your speech to type, by selecting the microphone on the Meta Quest keyboard.
