How to use and manage Meta AI assistant on Meta Quest

Note: Meta AI assistant is currently only available to users 13+ using Meta Quest in the United States and Canada with English set as the default language.

Meta AI will be replacing Voice Commands in the US and Canada. The Meta AI assistant is powered by Meta’s latest AI model and offers three exciting capabilities:

System Interactions: Enables you to quickly navigate and perform tasks through Horizon OS such as turning up the volume, or opening your camera roll.
LLM Chatbot (LLM): Allows you to tap into Meta’s AI capabilities to have conversations and get access to real-time information such as explaining calculus, or writing a poem in real-time.
Meta AI with Vision: Enables you to use MultiModal capabilities to better understand what you see in Passthrough such as looking at a plant and telling you what type it is, or being able to translate foreign text into English.

Users who are 13+ in the US and Canada can experience Meta AI assistant on their Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro and Quest 2 headsets. Users will need to manually enable Meta AI capabilities using the Experimental Tab in System Settings. Meta AI is not offered to Quest for Business users and this toggle will be disabled for Quest for Business users.

How to turn Meta AI on or off

Press Meta button or Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the universal menu.
Select the clock on the left side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
Select Settings in the top right, then select Advanced.
Select the toggle next to Meta AI to turn this feature on or off.
You'll be asked if you want to store your voice recording.

How to use Meta AI

There are several ways you can initiate Meta AI assistant, such as:

Saying "Hey Meta".
Double-pressing the Meta button on your controller.
Selecting Quick Settings in the universal menu of your headset.

When Meta AI assistant is initiated you'll be able to:

Continue to execute System Commands. Responses will be voice only.
Have continuous conversations with Meta AI assistant.
Ask questions about what they see in MR experiences, including panel content.

If you choose to silence your voice conversations with Meta AI in Settings, other people in calls and apps won’t hear what you say to Meta AI after you activate it. Your voice will be able to be heard after you complete your voice conversation. You can choose to change this in Settings. Learn more about how Meta protects the privacy of your voice interactions.

How to change Meta AI voice

Press Meta button or Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the universal menu.
Select the clock on the left side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
Select Settings in the top right, then select Meta AI.
Select Edit next to Voice selection.
Select a voice from the list to hear an example. When you've found the voice you want to use, select Save.

How to view recent voice conversations with Meta AI

A record of phrases spoken while using Meta AI can be viewed from the system settings on your Meta Quest.

To see recent voice conversations:

Press Meta button or Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the universal menu.
Select the clock on the left side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
Select Settings in the top right, then select Meta AI.
Select Voice activity.
From here, you can delete individual conversations by selecting Delete or Delete all to delete all of your activity.
