Support for legacy Meta Quest headsets and accessories
Over time, older Meta Quest headsets and accessories may no longer be made available for purchase and, eventually, hardware and/or software support will be withdrawn. On this page you can find information and timelines regarding support for older headsets.
Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro
Meta Quest 2 and Pro are both unavailable for purchase after December 31 2024, but users can still enjoy their headsets, access updates and get support:
- You can still use your headset and available apps.
- Both Quest 2 and Pro headsets will receive feature updates until December 2026. This means continued access to Horizon OS features and social experiences.
- Both headsets will receive critical bug and security updates until 12/2027.
- Meta Store Support remains available to headset owners as usual throughout this time.
- Sale of accessories for both headsets will continue until late 2025.
If you have any questions about these changes or about using your Quest 2 or Pro headset, contact Meta Store Support.
Quest 1
As of May 2, 2025, developers will no longer be shipping updates to Quest 1 apps. While you can still download and access relevant apps and games, it's essential to note that any newly downloaded or purchased content will not receive support after this date.
- Developers will cease updating Quest 1 apps starting May 2, 2025.
- People who use Quest 1 can continue to download and access existing apps and games.
- Any new downloads or purchases made after May 2, 2025, will not receive support.
Quest 1 hasn’t been available for purchase since 2020. Headsets were maintained with system software and critical bug fixes and security patches until August 2024. Quest 1 users should note that:
- You can still use your Quest 1 headset and available apps.
- We won’t be shipping new features to Quest 1.
- Quest 1 users will no longer be able to create or join a party.
- Quest 1 can’t access Meta Horizon Home social features. You can’t invite others to your Home or visit someone else's Home.
If you have any questions about these changes or about your Quest 1 headset, contact Meta Store Support.
Oculus Rift
We've stopped manufacturing the original Oculus Rift. Rift and Rift S run on the same core platform, so both devices will be fully supported with regular updates and releases. Learn more about Oculus Rift.
Oculus Rift owners will continue to have access to the same Rift and Rift S store. This includes any new content coming in the future, and any titles or experiences that you purchased previously will remain in your library.
Oculus will continue to provide service and support for all Oculus Rift devices that are within warranty, including replacements if needed. Learn about Oculus Rift.
Samsung Gear VR — November 2021 update
Android 12 for the Galaxy S10, S10+ S10e and S10 5G will begin rolling out in December, 2021, and Gear VR will no longer be supported on devices that update to Android 12. If you wish to continue using Gear VR with the listed devices, please do not update your phone OS.
Note: Once you update your phone, you will not be able to revert to the previous OS version.
Oculus Go — May 2021 update
We are no longer selling Oculus Go. However, we remain committed to supporting the community of Oculus Go owners and as an existing Go user, your headset will still be supported. Here’s more detail:
- People who own Oculus Go will still be able to use their headsets.
- We won’t be shipping new features for Oculus Go, and we won’t be adding new Go apps to the Oculus Store after Dec 18, 2020.
- We’ll continue to maintain the system software with bug fixes and security patches through 2022.
Thank you for being part of our Oculus Go community. If you have any questions about these changes or about your Oculus Go headset, we encourage you to contact Meta Store support.
Samsung Gear VR — April 2020 update
We want to let Gear VR users know about some upcoming changes for the product. As our focus is on delivering great experiences that take advantage of the latest VR technology, we won’t be releasing any new features for Gear VR in the future, and we won’t be adding new Gear VR apps to the Oculus Store after September 15, 2020. That said, you’ll still be able to use your Gear VR, use the apps in your Library, and download Gear VR apps from the Oculus Store as usual.
While the majority of apps you use on Gear VR will still be available, you’ll see changes to a few specific Oculus-owned apps:
- Oculus 360 Photos will no longer be available to download on Gear VR as of 5/30/2020. Oculus Video will also no longer be available to download starting later this year. If you already have these apps in your Library, you’ll still be able to use them.
- The Films section in Oculus Video, including movie purchases and rentals, will no longer be available as of 4/30/2020. We’ll send you an Oculus Store credit equivalent to the cost you paid for any titles you bought.
- Oculus Browser will no longer receive updates. You can continue to use Browser, but certain social and recommendations features will no longer be available and some websites may no longer be compatible. There may also be increased security risk as with using any out-of-date web browser.
Thank you for being a VR pioneer and loyal user of Gear VR, one of the earliest consumer VR products. If you have any further questions about the changes, please contact Meta Store support.
