Manage app and world access on Meta Horizon
By default, teens won’t be able to purchase, download or use apps that aren’t rated as appropriate for their age. For example, if your teen is 13, they won’t be able to access an app rated ages 17 and up without your permission. However, any mature apps that your teen has already downloaded to their own library prior to the launch of parental supervision tools won’t be blocked by default.
If you’d like to give your teen access to a blocked app, they can send you a request to allow them to purchase, download or use it.
Note: This feature may not be available in all countries.
Review and allow app access requests
- Depending on your notification settings, you may get a notification that your teen has requested access to a blocked app. If so, tap the notification.
- If you don’t see a notification on your lock screen, open your Meta Horizon mobile app. At the top of your dashboard, you should see any new
Notifications. Tap the notification for the blocked app.
- Scroll down to see details about the app.
- Review the app that your teen wants to access. If you want to grant access, tap Allow. If you don’t tap Allow, the app will remain blocked from your teen.
Block individual apps in the Meta Horizon Store
You can also proactively block an individual app in the Meta Horizon Store. Keep in mind that to block individual apps:
- You need to supervise your teen’s account.
- Some system level apps can’t be blocked as they're necessary for your teen’s headset to work properly. Some of these apps include Store, File Manager and Settings.
To block an app in the Meta Horizon Store on the Meta Horizon mobile app
- On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app.
- Tap
Menu in the top left.
- Tap Family Center.
- Tap on your teen’s account.
- Tap Apps, then tap Search to search for an app or app category.
- Tap the app you want to block, then tap Block.
To block an app or world in the Meta Horizon Store on Family Center
- Go to Family Center and log in.
- Click on your teen’s account.
- Below Their experiences, click Apps.
- Search for the app or world you want to block, then click on it.
- Click Block.
To block an existing app in your teen’s app library
Automatic app age restrictions apply to apps that your teen is trying to purchase or download from the Meta Horizon Store. Any mature apps that your teen has already downloaded to their own library prior to the launch of parental supervision tools won’t be blocked by default.
On the Meta Horizon app, block an app that your teen has already downloaded:
- On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app.
- Tap
- Tap Family Center.
- Tap on your teen’s account.
- Tap Apps, then tap the app you want to block.
- Tap Block.
On Family Center, block an app that your teen has already downloaded:
- Go to Family Center and log in.
- Click on your teen’s account.
- Click Safety settings, then
Toggle next to Block apps based on age rating to turn on.
- Click Manage individual apps to select an app to block.
After granting access to a mature app
If you grant your teen's request to download a mature app, it will be available in their library. If they stop using parental supervision tools, they will lose access until they reach the appropriate age.
