How to use live speech in worlds
We’ve created live speech to help more people enjoy worlds. When live speech is on, you can select a common phrase or type what you want to say and have it spoken out loud in Worlds. This data is stored for up to one year for integrity and safety purposes. Live speech is currently only available in English.
To turn on live speech on Meta Quest:
- Press
Menu on your left Touch controller.
- Select Settings, then select Accessibility.
- Select Live speech.
- Select the toggle next to Live speech to turn the feature on or off.
- If this is your first time using live speech, you’ll see a notice indicating that we process the text you enter to convert it into a synthetic voice.
- Select the arrow next to Voice profile to preview and choose one of the available voices to use.
Saved phrases
When using live speech, you can create saved phrases.
To use saved phrases:
- Select Add New Phrase to create a new text box for you to type a phrase.
- Select the X icon within the text box to clear a phrase.
- Select Delete to delete a phrase.
- Select the text box to edit an existing phrase.
- All custom and default phrases appear on the screen.
We're committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for everyone. To achieve this, we use a list of blocked words that are not allowed in messages sent in worlds. If you enter a message containing a blocked word, the word will be omitted but the rest of the audio will be played.
Note: In a world, the last few minutes of your video and audio (including synthetic audio) are recorded and stored in case you need to submit a report. Learn more about recordings used for safety and integrity in Worlds.
