Update the software for your Meta Quest
If you want to get the latest software version for your Meta Quest, you can use the software update tool to update your headset.
To check for software updates:
- Press
Meta button or
Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the universal menu.
- Select the clock on the left side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
- Select
Settings in the top right.
- Select
General, then select
Software update.
From here, you can check your current software version. If a new version is available, a button to download the update will appear.
When there is a new software release, your Meta Quest headset will update automatically when connected to Wi-Fi and turned on. To ensure your software updates automatically:
- Charge your headset.
- Keep your headset turned on.
- Keep your headset connected to Wi-Fi.
- Leave your headset on a flat surface without moving it or blocking the inside sensor for an extended period of time.
Note: Your headset will not update automatically while turned off or sleeping.
Turn on automatic updates
With Automatically power headset to update enabled, your headset will briefly power on to apply available updates and power off when updates are complete. You may hear your headset’s fans during this process. Your microphone and cameras will always remain off until you put your headset on and press the power button.
Note: When your device is powering on or automatically updating, its cameras and microphones can receive power but cannot collect or record any data.
The first time you set up your headset, or after a factory reset, Automatically power headset to update will appear on the Power off menu and will be turned on by default. You can turn it off at this time, or you can turn it off later from Settings.
To turn on automatic updates for your Meta Quest:
- Press
Meta button or
Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the universal menu.
- Select the clock on the left side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
- Select
Settings in the top right, then select
General.
- Select
Software update.
- Select the toggle next to Automatically power headset to update to turn this feature on or off.
Note: You can't use Automatically power headset to update if you have a lock PIN set. When a lock PIN is set, your headset can't be unlocked unless you enter the PIN.
