Quickstart guide: Capture a Portrait Video for Instagram

Device and settings setup

Put on your Meta Quest headset and open the Camera app.
Select Settings then select Camera Settings.
Set the following video recording settings:
- Choose your dominant eye for framing consistency.
- Set Include mic audio to ON.
- Set Aspect Ratio to Portrait (1080 x 1920 px).
- Set Image Stability to Low.
- Set FPS to 60.
- Set Bitrate to 20 MBPS.
Open your favorite app from the Library to capture a video.

Record your footage

Start the video recording from the Camera App. Alternatively, use the recording controller shortcut by holding the Meta button and then the Front Trigger simultaneously for 1-3 seconds.
Ensure the recording indicator (red dot) is visible to confirm recording.
Think about your framing when recording.
Optionally, talk over your footage while recording to narrate the action.
After recording between 30-90 seconds of footage, hit stop from the Camera App or by using the same recording controller shortcut.

Backup to the cloud

Open the Media Gallery app in your Library where you’ll see your video capture at the top.
If you see a “broken cloud” over any videos, click the 3-dot menu and select “Sync”. Wait for the progress wheel within the thumbnail to complete.

Download from Mobile

Open the Meta Horizon mobile app. Click the device icon at the top where you should see a thumbnail of your video. Click the video thumbnail to open the viewer, then hit Download.
Alternatively, you can download the video from https://www.meta.com/gallery/.

Publish to Instagram

Open Instagram and tap + to create a new Reel.
Select the video from your Camera Roll.
Trim and edit your video as needed.
Add a caption describing the video.
When you're ready, you can post your content.
