Why you need to have the right Meta account for your age to use Meta Quest

Everyone who uses a Meta Quest headset should have their own Meta account that’s meant for their age.

When you’re in the right account for your age, you have access to features and apps that are appropriate for your age group, including age-appropriate safety and privacy features.

If you’re in the wrong account for your age, you’ll have the chance to get into the right account. If you remain in the wrong account for your age, you could lose access to your account, apps and in-app purchases. We encourage you to get into the right account for your age before this happens.

We may ask you for your birthday to confirm that you’re in the right account for your age. In some instances, people who are 13 or older may be asked to confirm that they're in the right account by using a credit card or by uploading their ID.

There are options if you don’t have a government-issued ID (examples: student card, library card). Learn more about ID verification for Meta accounts.

Children must be at least 10 years old to create a Meta account with their parents' help.

Types of Meta accounts

If you’re 13 or older (age may vary by region), you can manage your own Meta account.
If you’re 10-12 (age may vary by region), your parent or guardian must set up and manage your Meta account.
If you’re 10-12 (age may vary by region) and are using a Meta account meant for someone 13 or older, you’ll need a parent or guardian to help you get into an account that’s meant for your age. Or, your parent or guardian can keep the account you’re using and create a new Meta account that’s meant for your age.

Features of Meta accounts for 10-12 year olds

Meta accounts for 10-12 year olds require parental approval and include additional parental controls, data privacy features, and management and monitoring features. As a parent or guardian, you can:

Manage your child's account and privacy settings, including their password
See how much time your child spends on Meta Quest and set time limits
Manage your child’s access to apps, including allowing or blocking access to apps and features
Report someone who isn’t following the Code of Conduct for Virtual Experiences
Make purchases for your child

Social features for children’s Meta accounts are limited.
