You can view what data an app may request or have access to under App Privacy on an app’s page in the Meta Horizon Store.
View App Privacy
To view App Privacy in your headset:
Press Meta button or Oculus button on your right controller to open the Navigator.
Select Meta Horizon Store.
Select the app you want to learn more about.
Scroll down to the App Privacy heading.
To view App Privacy in the Meta Horizon mobile app:
Open the Meta Horizon mobile app on your phone.
Tap to find the app you want to learn more about.
Tap the app to view the app’s details.
Scroll down to App Privacy.
Types of data
Sensor and device data
An app may request data from the Meta Quest device hardware collected or processed by your device’s sensors and functionalities.
Microphone: If an app requests access to the data (such as sound recordings, including your voice) picked up by the microphone, you’ll see . For example, allowing access to the microphone would make it possible to use voice chat in an app. You may be asked in headset to give the app access to your microphone. You can choose to allow or deny access.
Location: If an app requests access to your geographic location, you’ll see . You may be asked in headset to give the app access to your location. You can choose to allow or deny access. For example, allowing access to your location would make it possible for a shopping app to display your local currency and pricing. Meta accounts for children between the ages of 10 and 12 (ages vary by region) can only share approximate location data with apps. Learn more about Meta Quest’s location settings.
Hand and Body Tracking: If an app supports hand and body tracking, you’ll see . This feature enables you to switch between hands and controllers to interact with your surroundings and have a more seamless or immersive experience. Hand and body tracking also helps make your avatar’s movements look more realistic. Enabling this feature allows your headset to collect data about your hand and body poses, and estimated hand size and body scale. Images of your hands and body are analyzed on your device in real time as you move, deleted in real time after processing, and are not stored on Meta’s servers. Headset cameras: If an app requests access to headset camera data, you’ll see . Headset camera permissions allow an app to access the real-time passthrough camera feed from the front of your headset. The real-time camera passthrough feed includes everything you see in passthrough without any virtual objects that may appear to be blocking the real environment. Learn more about camera data.
Eye Tracking (Meta Quest Pro only): If an app supports eye tracking, you’ll see . This feature gives your avatar more natural eye contact and face movement and improves visual quality within the area where you are looking in headset. It also allows you to use your eyes as an input method on the Meta Quest Pro, meaning you can interact with virtual content based on where you’re looking. You’ll be asked in your headset to give the app access to your eye tracking data. If you do, the app will be able to use data about where you’re looking in headset. Raw image data of your eyes is not shared with apps, even if you choose to allow access to eye tracking data. Natural Facial Expressions (Meta Quest Pro only): If an app supports Natural Facial Expressions, you’ll see . This feature makes your avatar’s expressions look more natural. You’ll be asked in headset to give the app access to your Natural Facial Expressions data. If you do, the app will be able to use a set of generic facial expressions to animate your avatar in your headset. Raw image data is not shared with apps, even if you choose to allow access to Natural Facial Expressions data. Bluetooth: If an app wants to offer a connected user experience with Bluetooth wireless technology (for example, to allow you to connect a keyboard, mouse, or gamepad), you’ll see . For more information on using compatible Bluetooth accessories with Meta Quest device hardware, see this article.
Storage: If an app requests access to read or write to your Meta Quest device’s shared storage (for example, to download and save media files, including photos and videos you create), you’ll see .
An app may request data that is linked to your app activity and personal identifiers.
User ID: If an app requests access to your unique User ID, you’ll see .
Age group: If an app requests access to your age group to ensure an age-appropriate experience, you’ll see .
User profile: If an app requests access to your Meta Horizon profile (username and profile picture), you’ll see . Learn more about your Meta Horizon profile.
Avatar: If an app requests access to your avatar, you’ll see .
Followers: If an app requests access to your followers, you’ll see .
Usage data: If an app requests data about your activity in the app, you’ll see . Usage data may include, but is not limited to, information about your subscriptions, invites, matchmaking, groups, rooms, challenges, and capabilities.
Spatial data: If an app requests data about your physical space, you’ll see . When someone provides access to spatial data, apps can gather data about the contents of their physical space (examples: table, couch, windows, countertop). This means characters and objects from blended experiences can appear in, on and around the objects in the space as if they’re really there. Learn more about spatial data.
Destinations: If an app requests data about the destinations you visit, you’ll see . Destinations are part of an app and include individual locations, levels, or modes, as well as multiplayer servers, pieces of media, and other objects of interest intended for sharing that have been specified by the Destinations feature.
Social features
If an app has social features, such as messaging, voice, photo sharing, video and interacting with others in the same virtual space, you’ll see .
Policies
In the App Privacy section you’ll also be able to see the policies that apply to the app and the app’s developer.
Developer’s Privacy Policy: Learn about the information that the app developer collects and how they use that information. If you share your data with an app, the app will process your data in accordance with their privacy policy.
Developer Data Use Policy: An app developer’s use of any user data collected or processed through the Meta Horizon platform is subject to this policy.
By signing up you agree to receive updates and marketing messages (e.g. email, social, etc.) from Meta about Meta’s existing and future products and services.
