If your child is 10-12 years old (age may vary by region) with a Meta account that’s managed by you, they can follow and be followed by other people. Your child can view their followers on their Meta Quest headset or the Meta Horizon app.
Your child’s Meta Horizon profile is set to private and can’t be changed. This means other people must request to follow your child.
You can choose to manage your child’s follow requests in Family Center on the web and in Family Center on the Meta Horizon app.
If you don’t manage your child’s follow requests, you can still see their followers and who they’re following in Family Center on the web or in the mobile app. You can also block people for your child at any time.
When your child follows someone, your child can see that person’s app activity, Active Status, and what app or destination they’re in, depending on the person’s privacy settings. Examples of destinations include Meta Horizon Home and destinations within apps.
Your child’s followers may be able to see your child’s app activity, Active Status, and what app or destination they’re in, depending on your child’s privacy settings.
If your child’s Active Status is set to joinable, then your child’s followers can join them in Meta Horizon Worlds. By default, this is limited to people your child follows who also follow them back. Approved contacts can join your child in a parent-approved app or destination outside of Horizon Worlds. Note: Parents need to approve Horizon Worlds before children can use it.
Manage your child’s follow requests
When you manage your child’s follow requests, you can review, approve or decline requests in Family Center on the web or Family Center in the Meta Horizon app. You can also block followers.
To turn on managing your child’s follow requests:

- Go to Family Center and log into your Meta account.
- Below Family members, click your child’s account.
- Scroll down to Settings, then click Supervision settings.
- Use the toggle next to Manage follow requests to make your selection.

Approved contacts
You can add people to be your child’s approved contacts. Approved contacts can chat with, call, and invite or join your child in a parent-approved app or destination.
Only parents can add approved contacts. You can do this in Family Center on the web and Family Center in the Meta Horizon app. Your child must already be following or be followed by someone before you can add them as an approved contact.
Children can’t send or receive images or videos. Invites to join someone in an app or destination are one-on-one, although other people who are not approved contacts can be in the same app or destination at the same time as your child. Those people may be able to interact with your child, depending on the app or destination.

If an approved contact is 10-12 years old (age may vary by region) with a Meta account that’s managed by their parent or guardian, their parent needs to add your child as an approved contact too.
You and your child can block or remove approved contacts at any time.
Find people to add as an approved contact
There are a few ways you can find people to add as an approved contact:
- Find people or search for a person’s username in Followers and following in Family Center on the web or Family Center in the Meta Horizon app.
- Your child can request that you add someone as an approved contact.
- Another child’s parent can send you an approved contact request. Both parents must approve the request before your children become approved contacts.
Add someone as an approved contact
To add someone as an approved contact:

- Go to Family Center and log into your Meta account.
- Click Supervision, then click your child’s account below Accounts you supervise.
- Search for someone in Followers and following, or click Requests.
- Click
View profile next to their name, or click their name.
- Click Review permissions, then click Add.
Privacy settings
By default, no one can see your child’s Active Status or what app or destination they’re in. Examples of destinations include Meta Horizon Home and destinations within apps.
You can manage your child’s privacy settings. Your child will be able to see when you make changes to their settings.
When your child follows someone, they may see that person’s app activity, Active Status, and what app or destination they’re in, depending on that person’s settings.

What happens when your child turns 13
When your child turns 13 (age may vary by region), they will manage their own Meta account. They’ll automatically be enrolled in parental supervision, and their profile will stay private by default. You or your teen can stop supervision at any time.
Teens will keep their followers and people they follow. If you were managing your child’s follow requests before they turned 13, they'll now start managing their own requests.
Teens don’t need someone to be an approved contact to chat with, call, and invite or join them in an app or destination.
