Meta Quest Pro is the first in our innovation line of Meta Quest headsets. It comes with inward facing sensors which enable the eye tracking feature. Eye tracking is used to make your avatar’s eye contact and facial expressions look more natural during your virtual interactions with other users and to improve the image quality within the area where you are looking in your headset. Eye tracking may also be used as an input, meaning you can interact with virtual content based on where you’re looking. Eye tracking is not used to identify you. Eye tracking estimates the direction of where your eyes are looking, and images of your eyes never leave your headset and are deleted after processing. This means that neither Meta nor third-party apps can access these images.
Check out our Eye Tracking Privacy Notice or our white paper to learn more about how Meta built Eye Tracking into Meta Quest Pro with privacy in mind.
White Paper
If you choose to turn on eye tracking, your headset will analyze images of your eyes to produce a set of numbers that represent estimates of where you’re looking in your headset.
Eye tracking is off by default, you decide whether to turn it on.
In the Meta Horizon Store, we also indicate which apps offer eye tracking, so you know before downloading them. The first time you open an app that supports this feature, you’ll be asked whether you want to turn it on, even if you’ve already enabled it on your headset. You’ll always be able to turn it off if you change your mind.
We’ve also made it easy for you to pause the feature at any time from the Quick Settings menu so that when you un-pause, you won’t have to go through setup again. All sensors on your Meta Quest Pro, including cameras and microphone, turn off automatically when your headset enters sleep mode.
For your Meta Quest Pro
To enable Eye tracking for your Meta Quest Pro headset:
You can disable eye tracking at any time for both the headset and any apps that use this feature by toggling the feature off in Settings. You can also temporarily pause eye tracking in Quick Settings by selecting Eye Tracking anytime.
For individual apps
You control which apps have access to your eye tracking data. To enable or disable eye tracking for a specific app:
Keep in mind, if eye tracking is not enabled for the device, it cannot be enabled for any app. You can also temporarily pause eye tracking across the device and all apps in Quick Settings anytime.
