Troubleshoot controller issues with your organization-managed Meta Quest

This article is for people who are using a device that’s managed by an organization, not for people who are having controller issues with a personal device.

If you are using a Meta Quest that’s managed by an organization, such as where you work or go to school, then you cannot use the Meta Horizon mobile app to pair controllers to your device unless you’ve added your personal account (in addition to the account that’s managed by your organization) to the device.

Note: If you are using an organization-managed Meta Quest, then you cannot contact support unless you are an admin for your organization. However, you can report a problem on your device, which creates a bug report for your admin to review.

Controllers won’t connect to your organization-managed device

Try the following if your controllers won’t connect to your organization-managed device:

  • Check your controllers are charged.
  • Wake your controllers by pressing and holding the Meta button / Oculus button on your right controller and the Menu button on your left controller at the same time for 3-5 seconds.
  • Remove any third-party controller accessories, such as sleeves, covers or stickers.
  • Use the white dot in the center of your headset’s view as a cursor and the volume buttons on your Meta Quest to select. You can do this to check if your controllers are paired to your headset – go to Settings in your headset, then Devices, then Controllers.

Tracking issues with your organization-managed device’s controllers

Try the following if you’re having issues with controller tracking:

  • Ensure that your area is well lit, with enough light to clearly see, but not direct sunlight.
  • Ensure that your area is free of small lights such as Christmas lights or LED strips.
  • Ensure that your area is free of any reflective surfaces such as mirrors, glass or polished marble.
  • Ensure that the tracking cameras on your headset are clean following our recommended maintenance and care guidelines.
  • Ensure that your environment is free of any obstructions between the tracking cameras and the controllers.
  • If your controllers have removable batteries, try removing the batteries from your controllers for at least 30 seconds before reinstalling.
  • Power off and restart your headset.
  • Unpair and re-pair your controllers to the headset.
  • As a last resort, a factory reset may help to resolve your tracking issues.

Drift issues with your organization-managed device’s controllers

Controller drift is a term used when a controller's thumbstick no longer responds accurately to your input, or when it moves – or drifts – on-screen without touching it. To recalibrate your controllers:

  1. From your headset, select Settings.
  2. Select Devices, then select Controllers.
  3. Under Thumbstick range and deadzone, select either Calibrate left or Calibrate right depending on which thumbstick you’re having an issue with.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to recalibrate the thumbstick deadzones.

If you still have issues, try setting a larger deadzone.
