How to pair and unpair Meta Quest Touch controllers

Trying to connect an Xbox controller or other gamepad to your Meta Quest device? Get help connecting a gamepad to your Meta Quest.

You can pair and unpair your Touch controllers using the Meta Horizon app on your phone. This process is the same for all types of Touch controllers, and it is not possible to pair controllers without using the Meta Horizon app.

How to pair your Meta Quest Touch controllers

To pair your Touch controllers:

Make sure your headset is turned on, then open the Meta Horizon app on your phone.
Tap Menu at the top of your Horizon Feed.
Tap Devices.
Select the headset you want to pair controllers to.
Tap Headset settings, then tap Controllers.
Tap Pair new controller.
Choose which controller you’d like to pair.
Press and hold the Meta button / Oculus button and B button on your right controller, or the Menu button and Y button on your left controller, until the controller LED blinks and lights up.

Once you’ve paired your controllers, they will automatically connect to your headset each time you turn it on, if they’re nearby.

How to unpair your Meta Quest Touch controllers

To unpair your Touch controllers:

Make sure your headset is turned on, then open the Meta Horizon app on your phone.
Tap Menu at the top of your Horizon Feed.
Tap Devices.
Select the headset you want to unpair controllers from.
Tap Headset settings, then tap Controllers.
Tap the controller that you want to unpair, then tap Unpair controller.

What to do if your Touch controllers won’t pair

If you’re having issues pairing your Touch controllers to your Meta Quest:

Make sure the tabs have been removed from both controller housings.
Change or reseat the battery of your controllers and check that the controller has power.
Check your phone’s app store and make sure the Meta Horizon app is up to date.
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone, and make sure your phone and headset are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Your device must be on and unlocked to pair a controller. If you have a passcode but can’t use a controller, use the white dot in the center of your headset’s view and the volume buttons to enter your passcode.

If you’re using unsupported third party controller accessories, such as sleeves, covers, or stickers, you may experience issues with controller pairing or tracking. If this happens, remove the unsupported accessory to see if that resolves the issue.

How to factory reset your headset if a controller still won’t pair

If you have tried all the steps above and your controller still won’t pair, especially if you are pairing a new or replacement controller, a factory reset of your headset may resolve the issue. Learn how to factory reset your Meta Quest.

Note: A factory reset will erase all data from your headset, but your purchased games and apps are tied to your Meta account and can be re-downloaded after the reset.

While you factory reset your headset to fix controller pairing:

Remove the batteries from your controllers during the reset.
Once the headset restarts and shows the initial setup screen, insert fresh batteries into your controllers.
Follow the on-screen prompts to pair your controllers during the setup process.
If a firmware update is required, keep the headset powered on and connected to Wi-Fi until the update completes.

Note: If your controller still does not pair after a factory reset, or if the controller LED shows no activity at all with fresh batteries, the controller may have a hardware defect. Contact Meta Store Support for warranty assistance.

How to pair controllers to a warranty replacement headset

When you set up a warranty replacement Meta Quest headset, your existing controllers won’t automatically pair with the headset. You will need to use gaze functionality to complete the setup, which involves moving your head to navigate menus in the headset.
