Set up your boundary for Meta Quest
Boundary is a built-in safety feature that lets you set up virtual walls that appear when you get too close to the edge of your play area.
If you're setting up a boundary for the first time, follow the instructions you see in your headset. You can also watch the video below for an overview of setting up a boundary.

Boundary modes
When setting up a boundary, you can chose from these modes:
- Stationary: For using your headset while sitting or standing in place. Stationary Mode creates a default boundary area of 3 feet by 3 feet (1 meter by 1 meter) centered on yourself.
- Roomscale: For using your headset while moving around inside your play area. Roomscale allows you to draw your boundaries in your physical space using your Touch controller. We recommend a safe and unobstructed space measuring at least 6.5 feet by 6.5 feet (2 meters by 2 meters).
Adjust your boundary
To switch boundary modes or redraw your boundaries:
- Press / on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu.
- Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When Quick Settings appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
- Select Boundary.
- Select Stationary or Roomscale, then follow the on-screen instructions to set up your boundary.
Manage boundary settings
To manage additional boundary settings:
- Press / on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu.
- Select Library then select Settings.
- Select Physical Space then select Create new boundary.
The settings you can manage here include:
- Adjust boundary: This puts you back into the boundary setup like you did when you first set up your headset.
- Set floor level: Allows you to adjust the floor level of your boundary.
- Boundary color: Changes the color of your boundary.
- Double Tap for Passthrough: Enables the ability to double tap the side of your headset to switch to and from passthrough mode.
- Clear Boundary History: Clears all boundary anchors on device and the cloud for the current account. This action does not clear scenes, tracking or maps.
- Glanceable Boundary: When enabled, you can look down at an angle while in-VR to quickly see where you are in your playspace.
- Boundary Sensitivity: Determines how granularly you want to adjust your boundary alerts. There are two options:
- Simple: You’ll adjust the sensitivity of all of your boundaries collectively with a single slider. Lower sensitivity generally means you won’t be alerted until you get closer to your boundaries.
- Advanced: You’ll adjust the sensitivity of your boundaries at a more granular level using the following settings:
- Headset distance sensitivity: Lowering your distance sensitivity means that you won't be alerted until you're closer to the edge of the boundary.
- Controller distance sensitivity: Lowering your distance sensitivity means that you won't be alerted until you're closer to the edge of the boundary.
- Headset speed sensitivity: Lowering your speed sensitivity means you'll be alerted less when making fast movements near a boundary edge.
- Controller speed sensitivity: Lowering your speed sensitivity means you'll be alerted less when making fast movements near a boundary edge.
