Make calls and send messages with Facebook Assistant on Ray-Ban Stories
With Ray-Ban Stories, you can connect Messenger, WhatsApp, and your iPhone or Android phone with the Facebook View app to make calls and send messages using Assistant voice commands. Assistant can also announce when you get messages and read them out.
To connect your Messenger, WhatsApp, or your phone to Facebook View:
- From the Facebook View app, tap your profile photo in the top right.
- Tap Calling and messaging, then tap Connect next to one of the providers.
- From here, you can choose to have Assistant announce and read incoming messages. When you're done, tap Next.
Assistant will use your default provider when you make calls and send messages. You can use a different provider by saying its name.
To send a message:
- With your glasses on say, “Hey Facebook, send a message to [name].”
- To use a specific provider (example: WhatsApp), say “Hey Facebook, message [name] on WhatsApp.”
- Listen and confirm with Assistant that you’ve selected the correct person.
- Say the message you want to send. Assistant will read your message back to you to make sure it’s correct.
- From here, you can say, "Yes," "No," or "Cancel."
To make a call:
- With your glasses on say, “Hey Facebook, call [name].”
- To use a specific provider (example: WhatsApp), say “Hey Facebook, call [name] on WhatsApp.”
- Listen and confirm with Assistant that you’ve selected the correct person.
- After you confirm, the call will start connecting.
- When you’re done with the call, open the Messenger app to hang up.
To disconnect your Messenger, WhatsApp or phone from Facebook View:
- From the Facebook View app, tap your profile photo in the top right.
- Tap Calling and messaging.
- Tap the provider you want to disconnect under Connected Providers, then tap Disconnect.
You can use Ray-Ban Stories to hear incoming message alerts from the following providers: Messenger, WhatsApp, and from your iPhone or Android phone. When you connect to a provider and have Facebook Assistant turned on, you can use Assistant to announce who’s messaging you and to also read out your messages.
To set up message announcement and read out:
- From the Facebook View app, tap your profile photo.
- Tap Calling and messeaging.
- If you haven't set up Assistant or connected to Messenger, you'll be prompted to do that now.
- Tap on your Messenger, WhatsApp, or phone profile, then tap the toggle next to Announce messages and Read out messages.
Notes:
- If you don’t hear message announcements when the toggle is on, make sure you’ve provided Bluetooth permission in your phone’s Messenger app settings.
- When vanish mode is enabled on Messenger, Assistant won’t be able to read your messages out loud.
- Wireless carrier charges may apply if you connect Ray-Ban Stories to your iPhone or Android phone.
- When you choose to connect your iPhone or Android phone to Ray-Ban Stories, you’ll be asked for permission to access your phone contacts, so you can make hands-free calls from your phone with your glasses. Phone numbers and contact history will stay on your devices and will not be shared with Meta servers.
- If your phone is a Dual SIM device, then your phone’s default SIM will be used to make hands-free calls when connected to the Facebook View app.

- Emergency calls (example: 911 in the US) must be initiated from your mobile device.
- If you have connected Ray-Ban Stories to your iPhone or Android phone, please review your carrier’s emergency calling information to understand any limitations.
