Control what information you share with Meta on your Smart Glasses and Meta View

Meta uses your Essential Data automatically in certain ways, including to make sure your Glasses and the App work properly and to maintain safety, security, and integrity. You can also choose to allow Meta to use Additional Data to improve Meta Products, including to develop new Meta Products and features, and to improve your experience with Meta View. You can find more details about the choices you have for your data below.

Essential Data is information needed to ensure the device is working as expected, meeting user expectations, and providing the service as outlined in the Terms of Service. This includes using the data to ensure that the Smart Glasses and the App are operating properly, that you are correctly signed in, your security and privacy are not compromised, and to diagnose and fix any problems that you might have with the Smart Glasses or the App. Examples of the types of data that are automatically used for these purposes include:

• Data required to provide our services, such as:
• Your User ID, email and password, which are required to authenticate you and to create an account.
• Your notifications preference, which are needed to send notifications.
• Your settings to know if you have enabled voice services.
• Data required to operate the Smart Glasses and the App, such as:
• Status of Bluetooth connectivity.
• Battery status and condition.
• Status of Wi-Fi connectivity.
• Data to ensure your Smart Glasses and the App function consistent with your settings.
• Data about what information you have viewed in the App (for example, educational information), to make sure that the information you see is relevant and/or not duplicative.
• Data about when and how often you use the Smart Glasses and the App, to help us assess the reliability of the services, like to help scan for potential bugs or failures.
• Operating system version number to ensure the Smart Glasses and the App are up to date.
• Any errors or crashes that occurred to ensure we fix them for normal functioning of the Smart Glasses and the App.
• Other data required to ensure the Smart Glasses and the App function properly. For example, when you import photos and videos from the Smart Glasses to the App, we collect information about success rate, the amount of time the transfer takes, and the number of photo and video files you capture and import to ensure the import feature is working properly.
• Data used to understand or reduce risk of physical safety, like information about the temperature of the Smart Glasses when they are being used.
• Data used to understand and improve the information and operational security of our hardware and software, like data associated with potential software viruses and security intrusions.
• Data used to respond proactively or reactively to any potential abuse or policy violations.

Additional Data is information about how you use the Smart Glasses and the App, which we primarily use to develop and improve new features and Meta Products. We will also use Additional Data to evaluate the features we are developing, which enables us to decide what to build in order to offer features people value. When you make the choice in the App about whether to share Additional Data with Meta, the choice applies to the App and all Smart Glasses that you pair with the App. Choosing to opt-in to permit Meta to use Additional Data does not permit Meta to use the photos and videos created with your Smart Glasses for such product improvement purposes. Examples of Additional Data that are used in these ways include:

• Data used to improve your experience:
• Feature use: How often and how you use a feature to help us understand which features are popular with users, like which tools you use to edit media in the App.
• Analytics regarding use and performance of the Smart Glasses and the App, such as the length of time it takes to create a photo montage in the App.
• Data to help improve the performance of the features you use:
• Data about how well the Smart Glasses or App are working to help us improve them, like how long it takes to edit media on the App.
• Analytics regarding feature performance and usage to help us improve features and develop new features.
• Information you share when submitting a bug report to understand the cause of the problem and to resolve the issue.

You can choose to permit Meta to use Additional Data during your initial setup, or change your choice at any time in Settings.
