Microsoft and Meta are partnering to make it easier to connect your Quest headset to your Windows 11 PC. Follow the steps below to try this new experimental feature and share your feedback.
Prerequisites
- A Meta Quest 3 or Quest 3S headset: Quest 2 and Quest Pro are not supported.
- Windows 11: Your PC must be running Windows 11 22H2 or newer.
- Horizon OS: Your headset must be running Horizon OS v72 or newer.
- Supported GPU: See Mixed Reality Link System requirements for full PC hardware requirements.
- Network: Your PC and Quest headset must be connected to the same network. The Wi-Fi spectrum is 5Ghz or 6Ghz. Your Wi-Fi must be 802.11ac or higher.
How to set up your Meta Quest and PC
This experience will eventually be available by default on Windows and Quest. To try this early experimental preview, you need to take some extra steps to set up your PC and Quest.
To set up your Meta Quest and Windows 11 pc:
- On your PC, install the Mixed Reality Link app. Visit the Microsoft Store to install Mixed Reality Link.
- On your Meta Quest, press

on your right Touch controller to open the universal menu. - Select the clock on the left side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
- Select
Settings in the top right, then select 
Advanced. - Select the toggle next to Pair to PC with Mixed Reality Link to turn this feature on or off.
If you don’t see a “Pair to PC” setting, make sure you’re running Horizon OS v72 or later.
How to pair your Meta Quest and PC
To pair your Meta quest and PC:
- Put on your Quest headset.
- Have your PC nearby, powered on and unlocked.
- Once your PC is detected you should see a prompt to pair your PC appear above your keyboard.
- If you don’t see the button over your keyboard you can also start pairing by opening the Remote Desktop app and selecting Add computer or Quick Settings, Remote Desktop and selecting Add a new device.
- Follow the instructions in the prompts
to complete pairing your Quest and PC.
After pairing you can reconnect to your PC by unlocking it, looking at the keyboard, and pressing the Connect button. You can also reconnect from Quick Settings at any time.

After pairing you can reconnect to your PC by unlocking it, looking at the keyboard, and pressing the “Connect” button. You can also reconnect from Quick Settings and selecting Remote Desktop or by opening the Remote Desktop app at any time.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need the Windows App on my Quest?
The Windows App from Microsoft powers Quest Remote Desktop when you use it to connect to a Windows 11 PC. You do not need to launch the Windows App directly, but it needs to be installed to handle the connection and streaming from Windows 11 to Quest Remote Desktop. If you are a Quest for Business user, you can also use the Windows App on Quest to connect to your Windows 365 Cloud PC, Azure Virtual Desktop, or Microsoft Dev Box.
Why do I need to install Mixed Reality Link on my PC?
Mixed Reality Link from Microsoft enables Quest to pair with and connect to a Windows 11 PC. In the future this experience will be available by default with Windows, but you need to install Mixed Reality Link manually for this early Experimental preview.
Why can't I pair or reconnect my Quest and Windows 11 PC?
If you’re having trouble pairing or reconnecting, verify that your Quest and Windows 11 PC are on the same network and your PC is unlocked. If both the PC and Quest are on Wi-Fi, make sure they are both connected to the same SSID. If your PC is ethernet connected, make sure that your Quest Wi-Fi subnet is on the same subnet as your ethernet connected PC.
Why is my remote desktop screen highly pixelated or showing distortion?
Verify that your current network setup meets the system requirements outlined here. If you can, please send us feedback by following the instructions below.
Why am I getting an error when trying to reconnect or do an initial connection?
Verify that you are connected to the same network and not currently connected to a VPN. If you are still having issues connecting, try repairing by unpairing your headset in Mixed Reality link on your PC and forgetting your device in the Remote Desktop device list on quest, then try repairing. If the problem persists and you can, please file feedback per instructions below.
Can I use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse from my Quest?
Right now, you need to use the keyboard and mouse attached to your PC. We hope to add this in a future preview update.
Can I change the aspect ratio and resolution of my virtual monitors?
You can create up to three virtual monitors, resize them, and place them where they work best for you. We are working to allow you to change the resolution and aspect ratio of the monitors in a future update.
Why is the Pair to PC setting disabled?
You must have Remote Desktop installed to enable Pair to PC. Go to your library and confirm it's installed.
