Each pair of our AI glasses has a bright white light called a Capture LED that blinks to signify when content is being captured for your gallery.

Designed to be noticed.

From Day 1, the Capture LED light was designed solely to let others know you are capturing content. We conducted significant testing to find the right level of brightness so the light is visible even during the day.

Here’s how it works.

When you’re capturing a photo on Meta AI glasses for your gallery, the Capture LED light blinks briefly. When capturing video, it continues to blink for as long as you are recording.

No tolerance for tampering.

If the glasses detect the Capture LED light was covered, physically tampered or destroyed, they’ll automatically disable the camera. It’s that simple.

Here are some tips to help you and those around you feel safe and comfortable while you’re wearing your glasses.

Respect people’s preferences

Not everyone loves being photographed. Stop recording if anyone expresses that they would rather you not.

Let that capture LED light shine

Show others how the Capture LED works so they know when you're recording photos or video for your gallery. If the Capture LED is covered, you’ll be notified to clear it before taking a photo or video or going live.

Keep your eyes on the road

Use caution when operating a motor vehicle while wearing AI glasses, stay focused on driving. If you are wearing display glasses, use audio-only mode when you need to maintain visual focus. Use driving detection to turn on audio only mode when high speed movement is detected.

Power off in private spaces

Turn off your glasses in sensitive spaces like the doctor’s office, locker room, or school.

Be a good community member

If you wouldn't film it with your phone - you shouldn't film it with your glasses.

We’ve built features into every pair of AI glasses that help both the wearer of our glasses and the people around them feel comfortable. Here are frequently asked questions and answers around what the glasses can do, and what the glasses won’t do.

Who can see the photos and videos I take on my glasses?

You, and only you — unless you choose to share them. Photos and videos you capture for your gallery are stored privately on your glasses until you choose to import them or turn on auto-import. Once imported to your phone, they’re saved to your phone’s gallery, just like any other photo or video you may take.

Can’t people just cover up or disable the LED light?

If the glasses detect that the Capture LED light has been blocked or physically tampered with, the camera is automatically disabled. No photos or videos can be taken for your gallery until the glasses detect that the light is unblocked.

Are Meta’s AI Glasses always listening and recording?

No, the glasses are active on your command only. Recording only happens when the wearer deliberately activates it — by voice command or button tap.

Can I turn my AI glasses off?

Yes, just like any other electronic device, they have a power switch. Slide the power switch to turn them into regular eyewear.

What happens when I query Meta AI?

When you ask Meta AI about something you’re seeing—like a menu, a plant, or a landmark—you briefly activate the camera to help in the moment. Meta AI uses what you’re looking at to provide your answer. Privacy is built into the design for you and those around you: faces and license plates are automatically blurred if they appear in the frame, and images used to generate your answer aren’t saved to your gallery.
