Safety Information
Use Responsibly
Read all instructions and safety information before use. Print or save this page for future reference.
⚠️WARNING: FAILURE TO FOLLOW ALL THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS BELOW COULD RESULT IN FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR OTHER INJURY OR DAMAGE.
Electrical Safety
Do not open, disassemble or modify your Portal Go, its power adapter or charging dock (including its power cord) (collectively, “your Portal device”), for any reason, even when unplugged.
SHOCK HAZARD
Do not use if damaged. Your Portal device is a high-voltage device and opening or disassembling could cause electric shock or other injury.
Select an appropriate power source for your Portal device:
-
Confirm that your electrical outlet provides the type of power indicated on the power adapter in terms of the voltage (“V”) and frequency (“Hz”). Your Portal device works when connected to a rated AC power source with 100V to 240V AC at 50Hz to 60Hz. If you are unsure of the type of power supplied to your home, consult a qualified electrician.
-
Use only a grounded AC electrical outlet for your Portal device.
-
Do not use non-standard power sources, such as generators or inverters, even if the voltage and frequency appear acceptable. Use only AC power provided by a standard electrical outlet.
-
Plug the power cord into the power adapter first, then plug the power adapter into the electrical outlet.
-
Do not plug multiple electronic devices into the same electrical outlet with your Portal device. Overloading an outlet can cause it to overheat and may result in a fire.
-
Do not touch your Portal device or any wires connected to them during a lightning storm.
Only use the included power adapter with your Portal device (or another one that is authorized for use with this device by Meta):
-
Periodically inspect the power adapter, charging dock, and power cord and connector tips, for damage or signs of wear. Do not use your power adapter, charging dock or power cord if prongs, enclosure, connector cable, connector tips or any part is damaged, cracked, or exposed.
-
Do not use your Portal device’s power adapter with other devices.
-
Do not pull on the power cord to unplug from the electrical outlet. To disconnect your Portal device from the electrical outlet, pull from the base of the power adapter plug.
-
To reduce potential trip or entanglement hazards, arrange any power cords so that people and pets are not likely to trip over or accidentally pull on them as they move around or walk near your Portal device. Do not allow children to play with the charging dock, power cord or power adapter.
Keep your Portal device, including its power adapter, charging dock and power cord, away from water and other liquids.
-
Do not use your Portal device near sinks, showers, outdoors, or other areas where it might get wet.
-
Do not spill food or drink on your Portal device.
-
Do not attempt to dry your Portal device with an external heat source, such as a microwave oven or hair dryer.
System Alerts.
For your protection, you should take immediate action when prompted by system alerts:
-
Overheating Alert. A visual alert in the event your Portal device is overheating. If this alert appears, to reduce the risk of personal injury or property damage, immediately stop using your Portal device and let it cool down before continuing use.
Battery and Charging
Your Portal device contains a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. Improper use of the battery or your Portal device may result in a fire, explosion, battery leakage, or other hazard. Follow these instructions to reduce the risk of injury to you or others, or damage to your product or other property.
-
The battery in your Portal device is not user replaceable or serviceable. Do not attempt to open your Portal device to access the battery, or to open, repair, or replace the battery. Please contact the customer support team if you need battery or power management support for your device.
-
Only charge your Portal device with the included power adapter and charging dock or an authorized replacement
-
Do not attempt to charge or use your Portal device if it does not turn on after attempted charging, if it gets abnormally warm when it is used or charged, or if the battery compartment is swollen, leaking liquid, or smoking.
-
Do not disassemble, crush, bend or deform, puncture, shred, or put a high degree of pressure on your Portal device. This can cause leakage or an internal short-circuit in the battery, resulting in overheating.
-
Avoid dropping your Portal device. Dropping it, especially on a hard surface, can potentially cause damage to your Portal device and battery. Inspect your Portal device for visual damage before each use. If you suspect damage to your Portal device or battery, contact the customer support team.
-
Do not place metal objects, conductive material or magnets across the metal portions of the charging dock.
-
Do not let your Portal device get wet or come in contact with liquids. Even though your Portal device may dry and appear to operate normally, the battery contacts or circuitry could slowly corrode and pose a safety hazard. If your Portal device gets wet, contact the customer support team, even if your Portal device appears to be working normally.
-
Do not place your Portal device in areas that may get very hot, such as on or near a cooking surface, cooking appliance, iron, space heater, heater vents or radiator or in direct sunlight. Excessive heat can damage your Portal device or the battery and could cause your Portal device or the battery to explode.
-
In the event of a battery leak, do not allow battery liquid to come in contact with the skin or eyes. If contact occurs, wash the affected area with large amounts of water and seek medical advice.
-
Always ensure that your Portal device has adequate ventilation and air flow while in use or charging. Covering your Portal device with materials that significantly affect air flow may affect its performance and poses a possible risk of fire or explosion.
-
Your Portal device complies with applicable limits for industry surface temperature standards. To prevent potential low-temperature burns from prolonged direct contact, avoid direct skin contact with your Portal device for long periods of time when charging. Ensure the power adapter and charging dock are in a well-ventilated area, when in use. Do not place your Portal device under a pillow, blanket, other materials or part of your body. Users with special medical or physical conditions that impair the ability to detect heat against their skin should take special care when using your Portal device.
