Note: This notice applies to users in the US (excluding IL/TX) utilizing autogen.

The Avatar autogenerate feature (“AutoGen”), where available, enables us (Meta Platforms, Inc., “we”, “us” or “our”) to recommend avatars to you using a photo of yourself that you capture (“Selfie”) and submit when creating your avatar. This Avatar AutoGen Privacy Notice applies to our processing of your information in connection with generating recommended avatars via AutoGen. This Avatar AutoGen Privacy Notice also does not apply to the processing of information used to power other virtual and augmented reality features, such as filters, masks or other interactive digital experiences, that you may use with your final avatar after it is generated. The information processed in connection with those virtual and augmented reality features is subject to the Hand Tracking Privacy Notice, Eye Tracking Privacy Notice, and Natural Expressions Privacy Notice. Depending on your location, you may need to turn on those augmented reality features before you are able to access them.

Information we use to provide the AutoGen feature

In order to recommend avatars inspired by your appearance, our software analyzes your Selfie to estimate the location of parts of your face, like your eyes, nose and mouth, and specific points on the contours of those parts of your face (collectively, “estimated facial points”). Our software also analyzes your Selfie to detect the approximate size, shape and color pigment of certain features, and estimated skin tone (collectively, “predicted facial attributes”). We then use the estimated facial points and predicted facial attributes together to suggest avatars that look more like you (“recommended avatars”). If you choose to, you can use the avatar editor to customize the recommended avatars, such as by adjusting the estimated skin tone, before selecting your final avatar. None of this information is used to identify you.

We will store your final avatar so that you can use it for interactive digital experiences across our services. Once your final avatar has been created, you can delete it at any time by clicking the trashcan icon in the Avatar Editor. Your final avatar will also be deleted if you delete your account. Once you delete your final avatar (or account), we no longer store this data. Your photo, estimated facial points, predicted facial attributes, and recommended avatars will begin being processed for deletion immediately following the selection of your final avatar. The full deletion process may take up to 14 days to complete.
