Guide to shooting POV with AI glasses

5 min read

Picture this: You’re at a music festival, the stage lights hit just right, and the crowd is going absolutely wild. Or perhaps, you’re hiking to a mountaintop and the sunrise is painting the sky in brilliant colors. In both scenes, your phone is tucked away and fumbling with a camera means you’ll miss what’s happening. Recording with AI glasses lets you capture it all immediately, hands-free and from your own point of view (POV).

With AI glasses, you’re not just getting footage — you’re staying fully present while recording a special memory. From spontaneous adventures to carefully crafted vlogs, these glasses make sharing your POV simple, sharp and stylish.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to video record with AI glasses, step by step, so you can effortlessly preserve the moments that matter.

How to video record with AI glasses from Meta

Recording with AI glasses keeps your world in focus while your hands stay free. These AI glasses with filming capabilities create videos in real time, recording everything — quick vlogs, scenic hikes or everyday life — exactly as you see it.

Consider this simple step-by-step guide to start recording with your AI glasses and make the most of every experience.

Using the capture button

If you like a hands-on approach, the capture button on your AI glasses is your go-to. On Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta HSTN, Oakley Meta Vanguard and Meta Ray-Ban Display, you’ll find it on the right arm of the frame, near the hinge — easy to reach without removing your glasses.

Here’s how to start recording videos using the capture button:

  • Press and hold to start: Hold the capture button until the white LED lights up. On Meta Ray-Ban Display, you’ll also see a live preview of what’s in frame on the display.
  • Press again to stop: Tap the button once more to end the recording. The LED turns off, and your video saves locally to the glasses’ internal storage.
  • View your video: Import your footage into the Meta AI mobile app to watch, edit or share. With Meta Ray-Ban Display, you can preview recordings right on the glasses before importing.

Using voice commands

If you’d rather keep your hands free, you can record videos — and even vlog on the go — using just your voice, thanks to Meta AI. Just say, “Hey Meta,” and your AI glasses start listening for simple commands, whether you’re asking to start, pause or stop a recording. On our newest models, you can also access advanced features like slow-motion and hyperlapse recording, giving creators more ways to capture content creatively.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Start recording: Say, “Hey Meta, take a video.” The white LED lights up to show that your POV filming has begun.
  • Stop recording: Say, “Hey Meta, stop,” and the LED turns off.
  • Shoot in slow motion: Say, “Hey Meta, record in slow motion” or “Hey Meta, take a slo-mo video” for dynamic, action-packed clips.
  • Record in 3K Ultra HD: Say Hey Meta, take a 3K video” for crisp footage. Note that 3K video is supported on Oakley Meta HSTN, Oakley Meta Vanguard and Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) models.
  • Create time-lapse videos: Say, “Hey Meta, start a hyperlapse” to compress long moments into short, exciting clips — perfect for sunrises, city travels or workouts. Note that hyperlapse is supported on Oakley Meta HSTN, Oakley Meta Vanguard and Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 1 and Gen 2) models.

Zoom while recording (Meta Ray-Ban Display only): Say “Hey Meta, zoom in” or “Hey Meta, zoom out” to adjust the view. You can also use the Meta Neural Band to adjust: Just pinch your middle finger and index fingers, and roll your wrist right to zoom in or left to zoom out.

5 tips for recording high-quality POV videos

Recording with AI glasses is simple and stress-free, but elevating footage from “good” to “wow” takes a little know-how. These tips lead to stand-out POV videos.

1. Use stabilization, slow motion or hyperlapse

The best AI glasses with video have a built-in stabilization feature, keeping footage smooth even while you move at varying speeds. For extra creativity, try slow motion to highlight details in fast-moving scenes or hyperlapse to turn longer scenes into dynamic time-lapse clips.

Just say “Hey Meta, take a slo-mo video” or “Hey Meta, start a hyperlapse” — no extra gear required.

2. Experiment with angles and framing

Move your head, crouch or tilt to capture unique perspectives. Try shooting from below to add drama or from above for sweeping views.

Always think about your POV framing while recording and what you want viewers to see. Intentional composition makes your clips feel more dynamic and immersive.

3. Prioritize lighting

The right lighting makes a big impact. Natural daylight works best, but your AI glasses automatically fine-tune exposure and brightness to keep footage clear, even when the lighting isn’t ideal.

Try to avoid backlit scenes where your subject appears dark, and use shadows creatively for depth. Even simple changes, like turning toward a window or stepping into a spotlight, can dramatically improve your videos.

4. Make the most of the ultra-wide lens

Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) and Oakley Meta HSTN all feature an ultra-wide 12 MP camera with a 100° field of view that captures more of your surroundings. The Oakley Meta Vanguard has the same camera but a 122° centered field of view. Use it for sweeping landscapes, group shots or high-energy action sequences. Position yourself thoughtfully so the lens captures the full story and the key details.

5. Add smooth transitions

Smooth, deliberate transitions make your clips feel cinematic. Try walking from one spot to another, panning your head slowly or pausing between clips. Use specific gestures with the Meta Neural Band—like pinching your fingers and rolling your wrist—to zoom in or out while recording, adding smooth transitions to your POV videos. Little touches like these can help your final product feel seamless.

How to adjust your video settings

To get the most out of your AI glasses, set your video preferences before you start recording. Small adjustments to your settings turn a simple POV video into a smooth, professional-looking capture without ever interrupting your real-life experience.

Understand your video file formats

AI glasses from Meta save videos as MP4 on Android and HEVC on iOS. Both formats deliver high-quality footage. However, HEVC is more efficient, giving you great quality while taking up less storage.

Connect to the Meta AI mobile app

Connect your glasses to the app, then tap the Devices icon in the bottom right. If you have more than one paired device, swipe to select the one you want to adjust.

Resolution

  • Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 1): 1080p
  • Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) and Oakley Meta: Up to 3K Ultra HD at 30 frames per second (fps), or 1080p at 60fps
  • Tip: Use 3K for detailed scenery or action shots. Stick with 1080p for longer recordings or social content to save battery and storage.

Frame rate

  • 30fps works well for everyday recordings.
  • 60fps captures fast action — biking, running or dynamic POV shots — in smoother motion.

Stabilization

Choose low, medium, high or auto depending on what you’re recording.

  • Low: Best for slow, steady or scenic shots where you want a natural look.
  • Medium: Great for everyday walking clips or light movement.
  • High: Reduces shake during faster motion, like biking or running.
  • Auto: Lets your glasses choose the best level based on how much you’re moving.

Maximum video length

By default, your AI glasses record clips for up to 30 seconds. With the Meta AI mobile app, you can extend this to 3 minutes for most devices — or up to 5 minutes with Oakley Meta Vanguard.

Optimize for social media

  • Instagram Reels: Keep your clip vertical and under 60 seconds long for maximum impact. Add a touch of slow motion or a hyperlapse to make POV videos more dynamic and engaging.
  • Facebook: Go horizontal and aim for 1-3 minute clips. Recording in 3K resolution keeps every detail crisp for high-quality content.

How to manage and share your recordings

After recording high-quality POV footage with your AI glasses, it’s time to get the videos ready to watch, edit or share — and do so safely and securely.

Import your media into the Meta AI mobile app

To view or share your videos and photos, start by importing them into the Meta AI mobile app. This moves recordings from your glasses to your phone’s photo app. Most Android (13+) and iOS phones have auto-import on by default.

To import manually:

  1. Turn on Bluetooth and pair your glasses with your phone using the Meta AI mobile app.
  2. Open the app and tap Menu in the bottom right.
  3. If your glasses have unimported media, tap the Import button next to Gallery to transfer your clips.

Access your recordings

After importing, your videos and photos will appear in your phone’s photo app. From there, you can:

  • Watch your POV videos or photos.
  • Edit or trim clips.
  • Organize them into albums for easier access.

Share from the app

Sharing your clips is quick and intuitive.

  1. Open Gallery in the Meta AI app.
  2. Select the video or photo you want to share.
  3. Tap Share and choose the app or contact you want to send it to.

Hands-free sharing with voice commands

Share clips without ever touching your phone using Meta AI voice commands.

Before recording, connect your glasses to the Meta AI app and link your social accounts (Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.) in Communication settings. Then, try these commands:

  • “Hey Meta, send a video to [contact name].”
  • “Hey Meta, send my last video to my Instagram Story.”
  • “Send a picture to [contact name] on WhatsApp.”

For your security, always verify app permissions and connected accounts to keep your personal videos safe.
