Updated: Hand and body tracking allows you to use your hands or controllers to interact with your surroundings. You can play games, watch films and explore without using controllers. It also helps make your avatar's movements look more realistic.
To turn hand and body tracking on or off:
- Press
Meta button/
Oculus button on your controller to open the universal menu.
- Select the clock on the left-hand side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
- Select
Settings in the top right, then select
Movement tracking.
- Select the toggle next to Hand and body tracking to turn this feature on or off.
If you choose to turn off hand and body tracking, you can use controllers to interact with your surroundings on Meta Quest devices, and your avatar's movements will be based on the position and orientation of your headset and controllers. Hand and body tracking works by using the cameras on Meta Quest headsets. Our software analyses images of your hands and body from the cameras in real time to estimate the position and orientation of your hands and body.

Hand tracking for Meta Quest headsets currently supports the following gestures:

Point and pinch | Making selections and opening apps | When the cursor appears, point your hand at what you want to select. Then, pinch your thumb and finger together to select it. |  |
Pinch and drag | Scrolling up, down, left or right | Pinch your fingers inwards. While still pinched inwards, move your hand up, down, left or right to scroll. Once you've finished scrolling, release. |  |
