Updated:a week ago

The Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture (Beta) lets you capture your real-world space in just minutes, then creates an immersive digital replica in Worlds that you can visit from anywhere. This app is available on Meta Quest 3 and 3S only. You must be 18 years or older to use the app.

Getting started

Download Hyperscape Capture (Beta)

Hyperscape Capture (Beta) is automatically available in your library. When it is first selected, it will download to your headset. You can also find it on the Meta Horizon Store.

Prepare your space

  • Review the best practices for capturing with Hyperscape (see below)..
  • Make sure the space is at least ~3x3 meters and is well lit.
  • Turn off TV screens and make sure everything is static during capture.
  • Make sure you can walk freely around furniture throughout the space.
  • Make sure you have permission to capture in the space and that it is not a sensitive location (such as a locker room or someone else’s bedroom).
  • Remove any items you don't want to be captured and displayed from the space.

Start creating

You’ll be guided through the capture process, which needs to be completed all at once.

  1. Space layout capture: Walk along the edge of your room moving from one corner to the next. Stop every few steps and look around the room while facing the center.
  2. Detail capture: Get close up to objects and look at them from different angles. Move around to capture the entire room. This helps improve the fidelity of your world, making things more clear.
  3. Final touches: Look up to capture your ceiling. You can also choose to capture more details in any part of your space to improve quality.

Title, upload and processing

  1. Describe your world: Add a title and an optional description.
  2. Upload to Meta’s servers for processing: You can use other apps while it uploads but keep your headset powered on while it does. You can stop the upload and come back later without losing your progress.
  3. Processing: Once your world is uploaded, processing can take up to 8 hours, depending on the size of your spaces. You’ll be notified on headset and on the Meta Horizon mobile app when your world is ready.

Viewing your world

To view your Hyperscape worlds:

  1. From the Hyperscape Capture (Beta) app, select Your worlds.
  2. Select the world you want to view.
  3. Your world will launch in the Hyperscape Preview App.

Best Practices for capturing with Hyperscape

To help you get the most out of Hyperscape, follow these best practices:

1. Capture with Care

  • All Hyperscape worlds must follow Meta’s Code of Conduct for Virtual Experiences and Meta Horizon Worlds Content Guidelines.
  • Respect other people’s privacy. Do not capture other people, or even pets. Don’t capture spaces or objects you don’t have permission to.
  • Lighting matters. Well-lit spaces produce clearer, more realistic digital worlds.
  • Move slowly and thoroughly. The more angles and details you capture, the better your world will look.
  • Include ceilings and corners. Don’t forget to look up and around for a complete capture.
  • Capture at the right moment. For the best results, make sure nothing in your space is moving, such as fans or TVs that are on. Movement can cause blurring in your capture.
  • The more you capture, the better quality the result will be.

2. Safety

3. Connect and Learn

What data does the Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture (Beta) app collect?

When you conduct a capture, you are enabling your Meta Quest 3 or 3S headset to capture a series of images of your environment. The larger your environment and the longer you capture, the more images are captured. The more thoroughly you view your space when capturing, the more realistic your virtual space will be.

Additional data, such as the relative position and orientation of the Quest headset within the capture, are also captured to help in the reconstruction of your realistic digital replica.

It’s important to know that you decide what gets captured. You have full control over what areas you choose to capture based on where you look with your headset, and no images are taken without your active participation.

How Meta may use your data submitted from the Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture (Beta) app

Hyperscape Capture is part of AI at Meta, which includes your interactions with it when images of your environment are collected during capture. Hyperscape Capture data is processed on Meta’s servers. As a reminder, your interaction and submitted data from the Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture (Beta) app may be used to provide and improve Meta’s products or services, including AI at Meta (Learn more about your rights and how to object), and to promote safety, integrity, security, and to comply with legal obligations.

Meta may need to share your submitted data with other services, apps, experiences, systems or organizations. This is to promote safety, integrity, and security, to comply with legal obligations, and to perform necessary functions. If it is shared, that data may be subject to the terms, policies, and requirements that apply to such other services, apps, experiences, systems, or organizations.

Troubleshooting

Sharing and Inviting Others to View your Hyperscape World

Previously, you could share your Hyperscape Worlds and invite others to join you in Horizon Worlds. As of May 12, 2026, these features are no longer available. Hyperscape Worlds have moved out of Horizon Worlds and are now only accessible as “view only” in the dedicated Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture (Beta) and Meta Horizon Preview apps on Quest devices.

If you’ve shared a Hyperscape World before, others will no longer be able to access it through old links or invites. If you created a Hyperscape capture, you can view it in your Hyperscape Capture app or Meta Horizon Preview app on your Quest device. Sharing, invites, and co-experiencing Hyperscapes with others are no longer supported features.
