Troubleshoot black screen issues with your Meta Quest

If your headset is stuck on the Meta logo or a computer chip icon your device may be installing updates. Wait up to 15 minutes before proceeding with the steps below.

If you’re seeing a black screen while using your headset, or if you're seeing a black screen and still hear audio, here are a few things you can try:

Reset your headset

  • Reset your headset by performing a hard reboot:
    • Hold down the power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds, or until boot screen loads on the headset.
    • Use volume buttons to scroll to Boot device and select it using the power button.

Update your headset software

If a hard reboot does not fix your issue, try updating the headset using the software update tool.

Start a return or replacement request

If your headset is unresponsive to any of the steps above, visit our self-serve return page to learn if your device is eligible for return or replacement.
