Social features available for your child’s Meta account
Social features for children aged 10-12 (age may vary by region) are limited.
This means that unless you add someone as an approved contact, your child can’t:
- Use chats or calls
- Invite other people to join them in an app or destination
Your child may still be able to interact with other people who are not approved contacts in parent-approved apps or destinations. Apps may have social features such as messaging, voice, photo sharing, video, and the ability to meet and interact with others in the same virtual space, that could allow your child to interact with people they may not know. To learn about the social features available in an app, visit the app’s page in the Meta Horizon Store. Find out more about app privacy data types.
As the person managing your child’s Meta account, you have control over the apps your child uses on their Meta Quest device. You must approve any apps before your child can download them, regardless of the app’s rating and whether it’s free, paid or pre-downloaded. You can also deny your child’s app download request and revoke access to apps that you previously approved.
Followers
If your child is 10-12 years old (age may vary by region) with a Meta account that’s managed by you, they can follow other people and have followers. Your child can view their followers on their Meta Quest headset or the Meta Horizon mobile app.
You can choose to manage your child’s follow requests in Family Center or the Meta Horizon mobile app. If you don’t manage your child’s follow requests, you can see their followers and who they’re following in Family Center or the mobile app.

Approved contacts
You can add people to be your child’s approved contacts. Approved contacts can chat with, call, invite and join your child in a parent-approved app or destination, such as Meta Horizon Home or destinations within apps.
If you’ve added approved contacts for your child, you’ll need to log in as your child to view your child’s messages with their approved contacts.
