Free-to-Play Version of Asymmetrical Multiplayer Horror Game, ‘BlackGate,’ is Now Live on Quest

BlackGate, the zero-gravity 4v1 multiplayer game from Fun Train and VR Monkey, is rolling out a major free-to-play update today giving every Quest player a chance to jump in and experience its movement, teamwork, and tension firsthand in fast-paced multiplayer matches. If Among Us and Dead by Daylight had an alien baby in zero-gravity, this is pretty much what you’d get.

The new in-game entry tier, Fresh Meat, lets anyone download and play BlackGate for free on Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3. Free players can queue for multiplayer matches as an astronaut, complete zero-gravity movement tutorials, and try a guided alien training mode. It’s the easiest way to learn the game’s drift-and-thrust locomotion, get comfortable navigating a large 3D playspace, and squad up with friends who already own the game.

Players who pick up the Full Game for $14.99 unlock the complete experience. That includes everything in the Fresh Meat tier, plus:

• Playing as the alien, including future alien evolutions.
• Progression and stat tracking across matches.
• Glory Points, earned through teamwork and used to unlock cosmetics for both the alien and astronaut.
• Access to all upcoming content expansions during the ongoing Early Access period.

BlackGate’s core loop revolves around fast, physical zero-gravity traversal inside a sprawling orbital research station. Astronaut players boost, drift, and maneuver through tight corridors while completing objectives to restore systems and keep the station from falling apart. Meanwhile, one player controls a camouflaged alien that stalks from vents, shadows, and blind angles, striking when the team is distracted or split up. The result is a tense, unpredictable multiplayer dynamic where awareness and coordination matter as much as raw skill.

The Fresh Meat tier gives new players a clean path to try out the game, learn the astronaut role, understand objectives, and feel out BlackGate’s zero-G movement before committing to the full asymmetrical experience. The alien role, planned evolutions, and other extra features remain exclusive to full-game owners.
