Arcade Cover Shooter ‘Dead Second’ Blasts Onto the Meta Quest Platform Today
One of the best and most natural game genres to adapt for VR has always been the cover-based arcade shooter. Today, Dead Second from Spunge Games, an App Lab standout title on the Meta Quest platform, is officially launching on the main store to scratch that arcade shooter itch with plenty of levels, enemy types, and power ups to enjoy.
Standing at an arcade cabinet while you blast away enemies, dip in and out of cover to avoid fire, and wield a plastic gun pointed at the screen is an iconic gaming experience for plenty of modern gamers. With the immersive power of VR, that sort of game loop gets cranked all the way to the max. Instead of standing in front of a screen you’re in the experience itself and can physically duck in and out of cover to get the best angle and position.
If you’ve already played the App Lab version of Dead Second, don’t worry—the Meta Quest store launch includes a big game-changing update as well. Eight levels are revitalized with new details and lighting, there are new enemies, rebalanced difficulty levels, visual enhancements for Meta Quest 3 such as real-time shadows and bloom post-effects, a new Temporal OverDrive power-up to slow down time, achievement and leaderboard support, new soundtrack, and various optimizations and bug fixes.
It doesn’t stop there, either. Later this year an update is scheduled to introduced two-handed weapons, better AI for NPCs, and more levels. Beyond that, another update is planned with even more levels, more enemies, and even hand-to-hand combat. Dead Second is a game that’s seen constant evolution during its time on App Lab and is hitting the main Meta Quest store in its best shape yet with even more content and updates planned over the next several months.
Dead Second is available starting today on the Meta Quest platform for $14.99. You can keep up with the game and its developer on the official website, community Discord, or over on Instagram and X.
