Meta Horizon Worlds v99 Release Notes

Meta Horizon Worlds v99 is here! This week we’re introducing longer sound recordings along with an improved flow for adding audio to your worlds. We’re also testing out ways to make it easier to get together with friends in Worlds, as well as a course to “get started with world creation!”

Record Longer Sounds, Confidently

Sound is an essential part of creating a world. It sets the stage, evokes emotion, and creates a more immersive environment in your worlds. Until today, recordings using the Sound Recorder gizmo were limited to 30-second snippets. Starting in v99, the maximum length for a sound recording is extended to 20 minutes, unlocking more possibilities to incorporate longer-form audio into your worlds, like podcasts and full-length songs. The update will also scan the gizmo recordings for copyrighted content, muting where that content is detected. You can read more here, but below are a few key details:

  • Recorded sounds must be original content or pulled from fb.com/sound. When you record your sound in the Sound Recorder gizmo, you’ll see different banners on the property panel of the gizmo informing you of the status as the copyright scan is processed.
  • The World Publish menu will show a warning if you try to publish your world with a Sound Recorder gizmo that’s still in review or one that has been muted.
  • If a sound in your world is muted (either fully or partially), you’ll be notified in-app and via email. These alert emails will provide a link for disputes if you believe your sound was muted in error (fb.me/horizon-sound).

What’s your first sound going to be? Eerie? Funky? Upbeat?

Testing New Ways to Find Your Friends

To make linking up with your friends easier in Worlds, we’re beginning to test a new menu design that showcases which of your friends are online and the public world they’re currently visiting. This new menu will show up alongside the main Worlds menu, and with a couple clicks, you can quickly join friends in a world or start a party. We hope to roll this out to more people over time, and we’re excited to keep making it easier to socialize and hang out with friends in Worlds!

Class Is in Session!

We recently partnered with a few creators (shoutout to OcuLos410, Vidyuu, and Sensei_Jay) to launch a new course to help creators “Get started with world creation.” This course is made up of four learning modules including:

With this new and improved course content, we’ll be removing the “Learn” button and associated videos from the Create menu in Worlds.

Bug Fixes

General

  • We fixed a bug that was causing the Worlds menu to open multiple times and overlap itself, making it difficult to close it out. [UserVoice]

Creators

  • We addressed an issue that was previously reported in v98 release notes which was causing a “black screen” crash of Worlds when switching from Preview mode to Build mode.

Known Issues

General

  • Colors disappear from entities in some worlds when the user moves far away.
  • The world image displayed on your wearable for personal space is showing an old version.
  • There are some performance issues occurring in Venues (choppy, lag, low audio quality, etc.)—when close to a crowd, some people are experiencing dropped frames when they move around quickly.
  • For some, when unpairing the left controller, their Avatar’s arm becomes stuck in place.
  • Some wearable buttons aren’t clickable and lag when your Avatar moves.

Creators

  • Updating position attribute on grouped objects doesn’t update the position.
  • Dynamic lighting isn’t working in some published worlds.
