Enter the dystopian post-apocalyptic world of The Burst, a new and explosive action VR game for the Meta Quest platform from developer GoRapid Studio. In this bombastic adventure you’ll be tasked with taking down all manner of deranged and enraged enemies using a vast arsenal of weaponry. No one is safe in a wasteland this dangerous.

To learn more about the world of The Burst and what kind of game players can expect, we took some time to chat with the team, including Helen Megrabyan, the game’s Scriptwriter, Anna Glukhova, the Producer, Dmitriy Khabarov, the Lead Game Designer, and Michael Megrabyan, the Creative Director.

The Burst looks really fast-paced and fun. Do you want to start by just giving us the elevator pitch for what kind of game this is?

Anna Glukhova: Gladly! The Burst is what happens when Spider-Man meets Mad Max and Titanfall in VR. Our game is all about speed, shootouts, explosions and violence. Fast, furious, challenging and encouraging creativity.

Since The Burst is a single-player action game, can you tell us a bit about the world and the story? And how long will a typical playthrough last?

Helen Megrabyan: The story takes place in the far future, on a planet that went through a nuclear bombing and was turned into a penal colony. When one of the space bridges that was used to gather resources and send food to convicts is destroyed, you, a spec ops, are sent to Damag to make sure the rebellion won’t take over. A typical playthrough will take about 5 hours. If it is your first playthrough, however, it might take 6.

I understand that The Burst has a big emphasis on showcasing lots of awesome weapons. Can you give us a tease of some of the kinds of weapons players can look forward to in the game?

Dmitriy Khabarov : Believe me, The Burst has an incredible and vast arsenal. This includes SMGs, shotguns, revolvers, assault rifles, sniper rifles, flamethrowers — you name it, we have it! In addition, our players can expect more guns to be added in the future.

What are some of your favorite and most memorable moments you're excited for players to see?

AG: Not to brag or anything, but we have a racing track to die for. Literally. Fast, explosive, with a pinch of madness. There is also another level we’ve shared a snippet for that makes us extremely excited: the Train! I would love to see our players try their hand at running against time, dodging fights or trying to overpower everyone as fast as they can. Can’t wait!

Which games do you cite as the most important inspirations for The Burst?

Michael Megrabyan: We took inspiration from a lot of titles, to be honest. When it comes to visuals our lead artist was inspired by Fallout, Borderlands, Dishonored and Atomic Heart. The gameplay mechanics combine those of Half-Life: Alyx, Titanfall, Dying Light, Rage and Mirror’s Edge. The Burst’s story and atmosphere show some parallels with titles like Kenshi and Rimworld, but also Riddic, Mad Max and Escape from New York movies.

Do you have any last minute tips or advice for players picking up the game for the first time?

DK: Don’t be afraid to experiment! And learn how to use cruise control on your Mirage. It makes all pursuit episodes much more fun.

Finally, where can folks find out more about the studio and keep up with updates or news?

HM: You can of course look us up on our official company website, but we share our most important and up-to-date announcements on our official Discord server.

If that sounds like your brand of madness, then you should give The Burst a try! The game just released on the Meta Quest store today!
