Epic Turn-Based Tactical RPG ‘Triangle Strategy’ from Square Enix is Out Today on Meta Quest
Prepare to embark on a legendary journey that spans multiple continents, dozens of hours of adventure, and a vast cast of intriguing characters with Triangle Strategy from Square Enix, out today on the Meta Quest platform.
Complete with mixed reality features that allow the battles to unfold across your actual real world tabletops, this is an epic tale unlike anything else available on the Meta Horizon store—officially adapted for VR by the legendary developers at Square Enix Team Asano and Frima.
To learn more about this one-of-a-kind game, we spoke with Tokuchi Ippei, a producer on the Meta Quest version of Triangle Strategy.
Tokuchi Ippei: Honestly, it was a lot of hard work (laughs). As the original game was not created for VR, it became clear that many of the graphic assets could not be used as they were, so we had to recreate them from scratch. We also reviewed all the specifications, such as how to show cutscenes and how to display the UI, and implemented new ideas.
TI: Someone at Meta really liked the game and reached out to us saying that they would love to see it ported to Meta Quest, which led to this collaboration.
TI: We redesigned a wide range of elements from scratch, including how to show cutscenes, how to display the UI, battle controls, and key assignments.
TI: Specifying the player's coordinates, finding the best position to display the board, and adjusting the ideal distance for it to be displayed all took a lot of effort.

TI: Thank you. From the time when we were developing the original game, we paid respect to classic simulation games and tabletop RPGs like you mentioned. We are honored to become a piece of such history and for people to recall the qualities of this game, and I hope that those qualities are conveyed to young, new players by releasing the Meta Quest version.
TI: We started with no knowledge of VR development, so the most difficult part was figuring out how to optimize a completed game for VR and MR. In particular, the newly developed controls and UI designed to convey the game in a stressless way are elements that were rigorously tested and polished.
TI: Yes, I hope that is the case.
TI: There are many playable characters (30 in total) in this game, and the members that join will be different for each player. Also, the game has multiple endings that are decided by your choices, so for your first playthrough, please try progressing the story with your own choices without looking up resources like walkthrough websites. There will be new discoveries and completely different endings in your subsequent playthroughs, so please take your time to enjoy the game.
