Text-to-speech on Meta Quest

Text-to-speech on Meta Quest can support blind and low vision accessibility, as well as improving the experience for anyone who has difficulty reading or comprehending text that is displayed on a screen.

Turn on text-to-speech

To get started with text-to-speech, you need to turn it on in the Meta Quest accessibility settings:

  1. Press Meta button or Oculus button on your right controller to open the universal menu.
  2. On the left, select Quick controls.
  3. Select Settings in the top right, then select Accessibility.
  4. Select Vision.
  5. Under the Text to speech heading, select the toggle to turn text to speech on.

Use text-to-speech

When text-to-speech is enabled, hovering your hand or controller cursor over a piece of text will play a tone. If you continue to hover over that text, it will be read aloud.

Text to speech only works on Meta Horizon user interfaces, and some window (2d) apps. It is not available within immersive apps or games.

Text-to-speech settings

The amount of time you need to hover over a piece of text before it is read aloud can be adjusted:

  1. From the accessibility settings (see above) select Vision.
  2. Under the Text to speech heading, find the Time delay setting.
  3. Using the dropdown, adjust the time delay.
