With travel mode on Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest 2 you can interact, work and play in mixed reality while traveling in an airplane or on a train. Do not use travel mode while in a car.

To turn travel mode on or off:

  1. Press Meta button / Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the universal menu.
  2. Select the clock on the left side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
  3. Select Travel mode to turn this feature on or off.

An icon Travel mode, located between the Wi-Fi and battery symbols on the universal menu, indicates when travel mode is on.

Note:

  • Travel mode does not support Meta Quest Pro or Touch Pro controllers.
  • Travel mode is currently only supported on airplanes and trains.
  • Some Meta Quest experiences require Wi-Fi connectivity, which may need to be purchased from your airline or train service.
  • Meta Quest experiences requiring Wi-Fi may be impacted by the speed and reliability of the available Wi-Fi network.

Travel mode safety tips

Do not use travel mode while in a car. For the safety of yourself and others, stay seated when wearing your device on a plane or train. Pay attention to official announcements, cabin crew interactions, and follow all flight crew guidance.

Typical safety features do not function as expected

  • When using travel mode, do not rely on your boundary as you normally would to define a clear activity space.
  • Be considerate by selecting content that fits your space, and stay aware of others seated nearby or moving down the aisle.

Select content that fits your surroundings

  • We recommend media viewing and games that require minimal movement.
  • When you are traveling with more room (example: business class or with empty surrounding seats), the additional space may allow you to enjoy more active content.

Stay safe and have fun

  • Travel mode functions best when the flight is not experiencing turbulence.
  • We recommend stowing the headset during takeoff and landing.
  • Take breaks as needed such as when experiencing visual or physical discomfort, or during turbulence.
