Create a safe environment when using an organization-managed Meta Quest

This article is for people who are using a device that’s managed by an organization, not for people using a personal device.

Here are some ways you can create a safe environment when using a Meta Quest headset that’s managed by an admin in your organization:

  • Review health and safety information for your Meta Quest headset.
  • Select appropriate areas to use your Meta Quest headset in, and select content that fits that area. Using it outdoors or in public spaces may lead to more, uncontrolled hazards. Only charge your headset indoors.
  • Clear your surroundings of objects that you won’t be interacting with before putting on your headset. Ensure there’s an adequate buffer zone of clear space.
  • For experiences that use boundaries, set up your boundaries to navigate your cleared space safely and prevent collisions with physical objects. Virtual walls will appear when you get too close to the edge of your boundary. You may also be able to use Assisted Space Setup, if available.
  • Understand player modes when using an app in your headset.
    • Sitting apps can be used while sitting and we recommend that there’s at least 3 feet (1 meter) of free room in all directions. We also recommend using a rotating desk chair.
    • Standing apps can be used while standing and may require a small amount of movement. We recommend that there’s at least 3 feet (1 meter) of free room in all directions.
    • Roomscale apps require you to move anywhere. A minimum activity space of 7 feet by 7 feet (2 meters by 2 meters) is needed, but some apps may require a larger player space.
    • Be careful when using mixed reality. In a mixed reality app you can view and interact with external, physical objects or surfaces (examples: desk, wall, keyboard, table) while you are using your Meta Quest headset. Remove all other objects – especially hazards such as liquids, heat sources and sharp objects – from your activity space except the physical objects you’ll interact with in your mixed reality experience.

When choosing apps to add to your Meta Quest device, your admin can use comfort ratings, which address experiences such as disorienting content and effects. Admins can also use app and content ratings. If you’re using a device that’s configured in Individual Mode and you can download apps beyond those chosen by your admin, then you can also check if the app’s experience is right for you.

Note: If you are using an organization-managed Meta Quest, then you cannot contact support. However, you can report a problem on your device, which creates a bug report for your admin to review.
