Recording your display is currently available in English in the US.

Display recording lets you capture what's shown on your glasses display along with your point-of-view (POV) video, microphone audio, and system audio.

What display recording captures

A display recording includes four things at once:

  • Everything shown on your glasses display (UI, apps, content)
  • Point-of-view (POV) camera video
  • Microphone audio
  • System audio (sounds from the glasses)

These are automatically combined into a single video.

Start a display recording

You can start a display recording in two ways:

  • From your glasses:
  1. From the display home, swipe left.
  2. Scroll down and select Display recording.
  3. You’ll see a notification on your glasses display. Select Start recording to begin recording.
  • From the Meta AI mobile app:
  1. Tap Glasses in the top right.
  2. Tap Record display.
  3. You’ll see a notification on your glasses display. Select Start recording to begin recording.

Stop a display recording

You can stop a display recording in two ways:

  • From your glasses:
  1. From the display home, swipe left.
  2. Scroll down and select Display recording to stop recording.
  • From the Meta AI mobile app:
  1. Tap Tap Glasses in the top right.
  2. Tap Record display to stop recording.

The recording will also stop automatically when the 1 minute time limit is reached.

Recording limits

Maximum recording length is one minute. You can start a new recording immediately after the previous recording finishes.

Privacy and safety

Bystander LED

The bystander LED on your glasses turns on whenever the camera is active during a display recording. This signals to people nearby that video capture is in progress.

On-screen indicator

A persistent indicator appears on the glasses display during recording so you always know when recording is active. You'll also hear audio notifications when recording starts and stops.

Calls

Display recording is automatically disabled during voice and video calls. If a call starts while you're recording, the recording will end. This protects the privacy of other call participants.

Live captions and live translation

Live captions and live translation can be recorded when you are not on a call.

Data storage

Display recordings are processed locally on your phone. Video files are saved to your phone's camera roll and are not uploaded to Meta's servers as part of the recording process. Your display recordings stored on your phone are not used by Meta to develop or improve AI.

View, save, and share your recordings

Where to find your recording

Your display recording appears in the Meta AI mobile app gallery after it's been imported and processed. The video is also saved to your phone's camera roll.

Video quality

Display recordings receive the same video enhancements as standard video capture, including electronic image stabilization (EIS), de-warping, horizontal leveling, and stabilization.

Editing and sharing

Once saved to your camera roll, you can edit display recordings with any video editing app on your phone. You can share directly from the Meta AI mobile app or your camera roll.

Troubleshooting

Display recording stopped unexpectedly

A recording may stop early if:

  • The one-minute time limit was reached.
  • A voice or video call was received or started.
  • Live AI was activated.
  • The glasses encountered a battery, thermal, or memory issue.

Any footage captured before the interruption is saved. You'll receive a sound and visual notification if the recording stopped due to an error.

Can't start a display recording

Check the following:

  • Make sure your glasses have enough battery and aren't overheating.
  • Close any active voice or video calls.
  • Stop Live AI if it's running.
  • Confirm that display recording is available in your region (currently available in US only).

Recording is taking a long time to process

Display recordings take about a minute to process. For fastest results:

  • Keep the Meta AI mobile app open.
  • Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi.

Can't find display recording

Display recordings need to be imported to your phone before you can view the full video. You may see a placeholder in the gallery indicating the recording is processing before you’re able to view the video on your phone.
